November Pregnancy progression

edited October 2024 in November 2024 Moms
My due date is Nov 25th and this is my first pregnancy. Every ultrasound we've had, his measurements have always been a week or so ahead. Nothing too concerning from my doctor. His head has always measured a little bigger too.
We had our 35 week appointment last week and my OB was just a little concerned because baby boy was measuring 6lb15oz and his head measurement was in the 39 week range. He told me he would be a big baby and we will just watch it. I had my 36 week appointment and first cervical check yesterday, and he said i'm already between 1-2cm dilated, my cervix is tilted to the front, and I'm already thinned (didn't give a % or anything). He told me we're just waiting on contractions at this point and he was fine with him coming anytime after next week.
Is this a regular progression? Or does this mean I have a high chance of him coming early?

Re: November Pregnancy progression

  • It sounds like baby could be coming early, but hopefully next week. By then you're 37 weeks and he isn't considered preterm or at risk.
Or you may just halt there for a while. Definitely be ready and enjoy your belly time! 🥰

  • There are countless stories of women being told baby is measuring big, may have to be induced early, may need a c section, etc. Then baby is a nice 6-8lbs. Due dates can be off because you don't know the exact date of conception and implantation. I was reading about the possibility of women ovulating more than once a month. Also consider if you or the father are tall or have wider frames. The pediatrician was concerned about my daughter's height at her last appointment, but my husband and I are both on the shorter/average side. I don't remember if there was an estimate weight on my girl, but she was born 9 days early weighing 7lbs 7.2ozs with cervical checks only being 1cm till I had to be induced after water breaking. I wouldn't stress too much about the size or date. Just make sure you have bags packed, carseat ready to go, and anything else lined up for when the big day comes.

Baby could come early or not. It's hard go say at this point since it's different for everybody. For my first, I was 3cm dilated and 80% effaced at 36 weeks and it stayed that way for three more weeks. While I've heard people giving birth the next week while only 1cm dilated at their checkup a week earlier.

Also, my sister was also told she was gonna have a big baby since the baby measured 6lbs10oz at 34 weeks, and the baby was born at 6lbs8oz at 39 weeks. So there's a margin of error when they estimate the size of baby in the womb.
  • @heymannbaby2023 I think it's time to get your bags packed and make sure you've got things in order for baby to arrive. But babies are unpredictable and there isn't any measure that accurately predicts when baby will arrive.

Late growth scans are notoriously inaccurate. In my last pregnancy my 39w scan was out by over 25% on the weight estimate. Centile wise I was predicted a 95th+ centile baby and 2.5 weeks later had a 25th centile baby.

Statistically as a first time Mom you're more likely to go over your due date than have your baby before.

As someone who's had two very overdue babies, the last month if pregnancy is long. It can be mentally very challenging. Try not to stress, there is very little you have control over.

  • Sounds like pregnancy progression within normal limits @heymannbaby2023 There’s no predicting if you’ll go early, on-time, or post-dates. I’ve seen people effaced and 3 cm walking around for weeks and needing to be induced at 41+ wks.
I avoid cervical checks altogether because they mean absolutely nothing at this point unless you’re in active labor (and you’ll know when you’ve hit that stage!).
