2nd Trimester

Traveling long distance in the last two weeks of 2 trimester

Hi all,

I am currently 20 weeks pregnant and have a trip planned to India in exactly one month. That will put me at exactly 25 weeks pregnant and will be returning in exactly 14 days. This is not a baby moon trip, rather a trip for a family gathering that will take place mostly at home.

I am a first time mom, but have been to India many times. My plan is to not travel within India when I am there, I plan to stay put at home other than the one day I have to attend a wedding. I will be staying in the north Punjab region. Biggest concerns so far are food illness and contaminated water, I do hope to avoid any possibility of these.

I don’t intend on eating out from any place at all, all food will be prepped at home and will include bottled water. I have had concerns of India’s water bottle supply being lot the best, but then again I am not sure how worried to be about this.

The flight is broken into two, first one is 15 hours and the second is 4 hours. So far my only struggle recently has been upper back pain that sort of wraps around to my rib cage when working at my desk for more than 2 hours. Other than that I have been lucky to have a normal pregnancy so far.

Please let me know your thoughts on these plans and any additional concerns I may not have thought about it. The one thing holding me back the most here is the fact that my husband and his parents do not feel comfortable about me going at all. To an extent, I feel they are overreacting but I do understand their concerns and fears.

Thank you!

  • Who is this wedding for? A sibling? Even so. I honestly would not go.  I agree with family to stay home!

  • Are you going to be in a big city? I’d be worried about the air quality since that’s harder to address than the food and water.
  • It sounds like you have taken a very considered and educated approach to the travel. I'm sure going to have a great time and I'm sure it'll be great for your mental health to spend some time with loved ones! I am traveling long distance too and have been assured it is totally fine! Just sceudle in time to yourself and always listen to what your body needs.
