January 2025 Babies

How’s your nursery going?

Checking in to see how everyone’s nursery is going (if you plan on creating one) and by when do you plan on having it “finished”?

Re: How’s your nursery going?

  • My first reaction was “LOL”. We are slowly gathering items but we haven’t made solid plans on when to pull everything together. We probably won’t order anything until after our baby shower in a few weeks to see what we end up getting from the registry. I guess I want to have it set up by mid-December (a month before my due date).

  • We have the major furniture (crib, Snoo, dresser and changing table, glider) purchased although most of it still needs to be assembled. We bought a lot of it during the Labor Day sales to take advantage of those discounts which felt super early at the time but we got some great deals!

We just moved to a new house close to the beach so that inspired me to go with a coastal beachy theme with whales and turtles and fish and very pretty watercolor blue theme. It’s been very very slow and totally intimidating but I think we are making progress. Also hope to have it fully done by November - about a month and a half before my due date!
  • Similar to @jojosesame, we’ve got a bunch of the big items, excluding the glider. We also finished assembly of all the items needed this weekend which felt so good! Wanted to get that done before 3rd tri when I’m preparing to be useless lol

As for decorations, we have basically none of that and neither my husband nor I have ever been the best at designing or being creative. We are going simple with a little bit of a woodland creature/greenery theme.
  • Similar to @strongishmom we're waiting until after baby showers to purchase much, but are shooting to have the nursery done a month or so in advance. Currently the room that will be the babies' room is our home office, which we both use daily, so we're not in a huge rush to get it done early, so the exact timing is a bit up in the air.
  • Thanks everyone! I’ve been going back and forth between furnishing / purchasing now or waiting another month after our first shower on Nov 2 (2nd is on Nov 16) with baby due on Jan 7. I am a planner so I really wanted most things ready by the time I hit 36 weeks on 12/10.

I could wait another month, but I’m concerned about shipping and inventory. Big furniture pieces are from Pottery Barn Kids and Williams Sonoma furniture delivery tends to be a lot later than what is quoted on their website unfortunately, although I’ve never ordered kids items from that group of stores, only regular furniture.

Is anyone or has anyone ordered nursery furniture from Pottery Barn Kids or Crate and Kids? Debating if we go ahead and get the crib and dresser w/ changer topper now so we get them in on time assuming delivery delays.

my mom friends tell me to not rush the nursery because a newborn/infant doesn’t need much and the nursery will get done when it gets done. Some say they haven’t even really used the room and it’s been over a year lol. I think it depends on parenting styles. My cousin used their nursery the moment they brought their babies home, some have barely used.

Personally, I just want ours set up so I don’t have to worry about it down the road. Deciding if I want to do that sooner (this month) rather than later (next month)!
  • @peacefuladventures we just ordered our crib from pottery barn kids yesterday, and it will be delivered and assembled this Thursday! Of course it's possible to have delays depending on what you order and where you live, but I've gotten lots of furniture from pottery barn in the past and it is typically delivered pretty quickly in my experience.
  • Our first didn't start sleeping in her nursery until she was about 5 months old.  She slept in a bassinet in our room at night and we had another bassinet in the living room for her to sleep in during the day.  Her nursery was setup just under 2 weeks before she was born (she was a week early).  We don't have anything setup yet for the new baby and we probably won't until close to when he is born or maybe even after since he is due so close to the holidays.
  • @jaclyn-ak ah good to know very helpful!
  • Hubby is in the process of painting our guest room which will become split between guest room/nursery for the foreseeable future. Other than that, I've planned for the theme of my baby shower to be the same as the nursery, so any decor I'm buying will be reusable, but we're waiting to buy the crib and rocker/glider until Black Friday, which, with shipping times, will probably be preeeeetty close to my due date (1/5). Guest room furniture will be reset as soon as painting is done, and maybe I'll get some of the decor done but I'm guessing the whole room won't be totally done until baby is a few months old. I'm having him sleep in our room for a few months in a bassinet regardless so it's just become deprioritized among all the other to-dos.
  • Haha i had a room set up for our first but with a 2 bedroom apartment the girls share a room now and baby will get his own bedside bassinet in our room. Im borrowing the bassinet from my husband’s cousin so we’ll pry pick it up mid December. I like to have it a few weeks early as i feel like seeing signs of a baby in the house helps prepare my brain for whats happening. Also nice to have it in case baby would come early. So far that hasn't happened but ya never know😅
  • @dalszer in a similar position. We got the major furniture pieces in the nursery, but have a bassinet that will be in our room where baby boy will sleep for a few months. Nursery room will likely won’t be “done” for a few months in. Although a have a couple of mom friends who shared that they had their baby sleep in the crib during the day, to help them associate sleep with bassinet and crib. I guess we won’t know until we get to that point! Every baby (and parenting style!) is different!
