First trimester screening bill

I just received my bill for the Fetal Chromosomal Aneuploidy aka nuchal translucency screening I did at the end of my first trimester. I owe $749! Thank goodness I have FSA money to use but what is my 20 week anatomy scan that I did today and went to the same specialist going to cost? Did anyone else have a similar insane bill?

Re: First trimester screening bill

  • @eclaire90 my bill from Unity for the aneuploidy screening was $500. I didn't do the NT screening. So far I've had to pay a $40 specialist copay for MFM to do my anatomy scan on Tuesday - I am thinking the scan itself should be covered because its considered necessary and I will only have to pay the copay. Genetic testing is considered elective so it is usually a bigger bill unfortunately. Unity charged my insurance company over $50,000!

  • @cortneylynnn glad to know I’m not alone with the insane cost. I figured the 20 week anatomy scan was not elective so hopefully it’s just my copay. Time will tell

  • Definitely makes me think about how much I should allot in my FSA for next year with delivery cost and other bills
  • @eclaire90 just an update - I called Unity and asked if I could pay the self-pay price instead of them running it through insurance. Self-pay dropped it to $349! Still expensive but better than before. Wanted to let you know that option if you haven't paid yet!
