I'm looking for a crib because our crib is long gone since my baby is 9🥹 I did get a bedside bassinet already that I'm excited about. The last time I had babies we used the Rock 'n Play' next to the bed- which has since been recalled.
We do still have the crib from our first, 8 years ago, but won't use it for a bit. We borrowed a Moses basket, which was great. She even learned to rock herself! We are looking at a simple, traditional bassinet this time.
We used the dream on me bedside bassinet, then moved to a crib but honestly I don’t think I’ll try a crib again. Our baby was in it for a couple months and would just constantly roll into the bars or use them to stand up and yell. We moved her to a floor bed around 9 months and it was so much better. She rolled out of bed onto the carpet a few times, then learned where it was and started really enjoying the freedom. It required a slightly higher level of baby proofing but has been so worth it!
@knottie what did you put the mattress on for the floor bed? Is there some type of frame to reduce mold, or do you pick the mattress up every day? It'd an intriguing concept, but I can't wrap my mind around the logistics.
Haha I literally just put the mattress straight on the floor with one of those sticky pads under it to prevent sliding. When I started I also used some firm, flat cushions propped next to the walls around it so my baby couldn’t fall into the wall, but now that she knows the room well I just have the mattress on the floor. I try to change the sheets and move the mattress about once a week, but we’ve never had any mold issues yet and it’s been 6 months. You can get actual low bedframes and I think I will when she gets a bit bigger, but for getting started I didn’t want to overthink it :’)
We have a basic convertible crib in the nursery that will now be used for baby #3. Likely won’t move into the crib until between 4-6 months (depending on many factors).
We have a SNOO bassinet that we love and will use for the first 4-6 months. Our first born loved the swaying movement, our second did not. It was nice to be able to put controls on the movement from the app so you could limit the movement as you prefer or change with the click of a button. The built in sound machine and strap down swaddles are my favorite features. My least favorite part of this model is that one of the sides doesn’t go down for easier access to baby without getting out of bed.
We had the snoo last time (bought it used and sold it for the same price I bought it for). I may go that again. But I also like the idea of the co-sleeper bassinet with the side that comes down so I can just put it right next to the bed and not have to get up. That middle of the night getting up and down is so annoying. For start the bassinet she we just have a convertible from that a friend have us hand me down and he was in that until 5. My bigger stress is fitting both the crib and another dresser into my son's room (we live in a tiny two bedroom house in SF and there's not lot of other options). Going to have to move out the chair and a bunch of junk (ahem art projects and supplies) and I'm worried it will feel very cramped. Long term I'm hoping to put them in bunk beds. Anyway sorry for the late night ramble.
