Celebrating Half Birthdays

We are due December 23 and have heard a number of December babies celebrating half birthdays due to the holidays. I feel your birthday is once a year, celebrating it on your birthday is important but have heard a number of people say their kids felt their birthday was pushed aside due to the holidays.

Thoughts, anyone?

Re: Celebrating Half Birthdays

  • I think it's mostly because as the child grow up and would want to celebrate with friends too, it's not logistically feasible that close to Christmas or the New Year as people tends to have family gatherings in those dates.

It can be easy to feel like whatever you decide now is what your child is stuck with their whole life, but you can always do something different in the future if it’s not working.

We know someone who celebrates a half-birthday for her son who was born 12/24. I think we’ll do a January party for our daughter unless/until she has a different opinion about it.

  • That’s a neat idea but I’d say just do it in early Dec or wait til Jan

My oldest’s bday is in the middle summer when we and all his school friends tend to be on vacation, so we usually hold his party a couple weeks before school gets out (~4 weeks early) so everyone can make it.
