I slept on my neck and shoulder wrong and it is painful. I would usually use biofreeze or icy hot but I'm unsure if these are safe. Any recommendations on safe essential oils I can dilute and rub on it? Other alternatives welcome also.
Oof I’ve done this, so painful! I would do a hot compress, leave it on for 15 min or so on and off until it starts to loosen up. Tylenol too (not as good as ibuprofen but might help the pain). I think lavender is good for relaxing but don’t quote me on that.
Thanks so much. I've been doing the heating pad on and off with Tylenol and I've been trying to rub it out but it's still there. I am a back sleeper so I tried to sleep on my side which is recommended and I wound up getting muscle strain in my neck, back, and neck. Wish I could just sleep on my back and this could be avoided. I wonder if organic muscle rubs would be okay with essential oils to help. This is my first pregnancy and all of the rules can get overwhelming!
I don’t know much about essential oils so I can’t help there, but gave you gotten a pregnancy pillow? I’m also a back sleeper and my pillow has been a lifesaver! I have a big U-shaped one, so I put the bottom of the U on my pillow and it lifts my head up enough for me to have my shoulders comfortably sideways.
Other than that, my only suggestion is to contact your doctor to see what they say. Mine has said I can use a few meds (in specific circumstances) which I wouldn’t have thought of, so it’s been helpful for me to reach out to them about one-off health things.
Try a warm bath (not over 100°F) with epsom salts to just soak the muscles and take pressure off of your joints. Now is the time to ask your partner for a shoulder rub (or a close friend). I don't want someone touching me so I won't go for a prenatal massage but I'm learning to ask for help when I'm in pain. I can't find any safe muscle rubs so I've just been using cocoa butter and I also keep getting conflicting information about essential oils topically. Keep switching sides when you sleep to not to kill all the pressure points, and if you have to, do what I do and sleep in a comfy chair for a few hours (with your feet up).
