Effacing cervix without dilation

Hello! I am currently about 33 and a half weeks. This is technically my second baby but our rainbow baby. I had to deliver our first angel at 25 weeks. Otherwise generally healthy, 36 yrs old Dietitian.
In addition to increasing Braxton Hicks and ligament pains, I have been having cramping and pelvic pressure. So much so that it's painful to walk. At my last appt, baby was fine, but my OB checked my cervix due to the cramping and mentioned it was really soft. She suspected close to 60% effaced already at 32 weeks and 6 days. Luckily I wasn't dilated. Since then, I haven't had any change in the amount of cramping, no bleeding, but continued pelvic pressure and left side ligament pains making it more difficult to walk. I'm worried he's going to come too early. Had anyone else experienced this?

  • All that effacement means nothing, unfortunately. Same for those mamas walking around 2/3cm dilated for weeks and weeks! Wish I could tell you that your effacement means you’ll go sooner but it’s not necessarily true. But yay for getting closer! and definitely call your provider if the cramping becomes regular and lasts awhile.

  • Try not to worry about that. For my first I was 80% effaced and 3cm dilated for at least 4 weeks before I was induced at 39 weeks. So being effaced doesn't equal to baby coming quickly. Especially if you are not dilated. Those steps can take weeks to move along. If your provider hasn't started yet , they will soon be doing weekly check-up to keep an eye on things. ❤️
