Re: September 16 - Weekly check-in

  • Due date: Dec 24

Upcoming appointment: glucose challenge in two weeks

How are you feeling?: Mostly good, but definitely starting to feel some limits. Walked 6 miles and rode 10 a couple days ago (which is a pretty normal non-pregnancy amount for me) and was just drained the next day. So…woof.

Have you started preparing for the birth? Want to share your plans?: My first was wild — diagnosed with severe preeclampsia at 39 weeks and had an AROM to kick off induction right after that that resulted in an unmedicated birth, 2.5 hours from first contraction to baby, with 1.5 liters of blood loss and a third degree tear. I imagine this time will also be fast, but I’m hoping no pre-e, more controlled & more focus on preventing blood loss!

Anything else you want to share?: excited for fall! Apple picking, pumpkins, and more!

    Due date: Dec 2
Upcoming appointment: Just follow-up in two weeks
How are you feeling?: Exhausted, but really happy. Enjoyed my daughter's first birthday last week-end with close family.
Have you started preparing for the birth? Want to share your plans?: I'm trying to prepare a bit. I have less to prepare since I still have all my daughter's stuff for after the birth. I'm hoping baby will come early without complications. I was induced at 39.2 weeks with my first, got an epidural and it went well enough, but I was curious to experience not being induced this time around if there's less risks this time around. We'll see how it goes!
Anything else you want to share?: I'm thinking of stopping work in a few weeks to get a break before the big day.

@wednesdayschild 2.5h? That's so fast! I didn't thought it could be that fast with induction, as I was told it was a long process. We're you able to recover quickly from that 3rd degree tear and blood loss? Pre-eclampsia sounds scary... I do hope you get by without this time around.

With the induction the whole process took about 10h for me (got my first dosage of pitocin at around 9h and baby was born at 18h20), the actual labor lasted about 2h, (I mostly didn't feel the contactions before labor started). The worst was waiting for the contraction during labor as they had started to distance themselves to over 5 min... I had time to chit-chat with my doctor in-between the pushing. They didn't want to raise the dosage of pitocin higher as I already was over the normal range. Even with the epidural, I could still feel the contractions well enough, but they weren't painful. I had a small a 2nd degree tear and an hemorage, but I didn't need transfusion. I felt like I recovered quickly as I was able to walk around not even a few hours later.
  • @froggerblue, yeah, they call it a precipitous birth! I was walking around for 2-3 weeks at 6 cm dilated and 100% effaced very much not in labor, so I’m guessing it was that. The recovery wasn’t bad except for just feeling very weak for a long time - tear didn’t really hurt at all. And the worst part about pre-e for me is the magnesium drip they give you — it makes you feel hungover for 48 hours 🥴

Happy birthday to your first! That’s such a big birthday! Did you do a cake smash or a cute theme?

I can totally understand not wanting to go the induction route again, although that sounds like a relatively quick experience — hope your next birth is smooth & intervention-free!
  • @wednesdayschild I'm glad the recovery wasn't too bad. ☺️ And that magnesium drip doesn't sound fun at all...

The birthday was fun! I didn't go the typical smash cake route. I made a two tier cake that we splitted (top tier was an applesauce chocolate cake with pears and peaches for the baby, bottom tier was a lemony sponge cake also with peaches and pears). To be honest she didn't destroyed it much and she didn't eat more than a few bites (must have been full from tomato and meat pasta, her favorite yet!!) because I thought it was pretty decent (I ate most of it 😂). We didn't really had a theme, but we did put up a backdrop with fairy lights to take family photos. It made such pretty pictures to remember that special day!!
  • Due date: 11/28

    Upcoming appointment: 10/1

How are you feeling? Pregnant. My pelvis is basically completely separated so I look like a marionette when walking after sitting awhile. Sleep could be better. Energy has been low; haven’t worked out this week but being patient with myself.

Have you started preparing for the birth? Want to share your plans? My mom just bought her ticket to stay with us for 10 days before due date and 7 days after. She’ll mostly be helping with 3 older sibs so husband and I can focus on L&D and the first days PP when the time comes. We also just bought a 7-seater vehicle since we’ll be graduating to being a family of 6!!

Anything else you want to share? Husband was forced to go on a work trip on the East Coast this week and single parenting has been ROUGH. But having the bed to myself and eating/sleeping on my schedule has been real nice.

  • Due date: 12/25

Upcoming appointment: Early October - ultrasound because I had low lying placenta at my anatomy scan and glucose test with my OB. Really hoping the placenta has moved up when I go in!

How are you feeling?: Round and tired. My belly has started to hurt a bit as it stretches up around my belly button. And I'm tired most of the time. But also really excited to get closer to meeting this little one, and loving feeling it move around.

Have you started preparing for the birth? Want to share your plans?: Have been doing a lot of sorting and cleaning from my first to have things ready for the baby. I'm feeling a bit anxious because with my first I felt so much more prepared at this point and had done a lot of special things for the baby (knitted things, bought sweet outfits, made felt animali, etc.) and life has been so busy I haven't had time for any of that! Feeling very behind!

Anything else you want to share?: excited for some fall and winter holidays coming up! Might even do a baby bump Halloween costume! ☺️
  • @dogmama629, what are your ideas for Halloween? My office goes hard and I’m stressing!
  • Due date: 12/25

Upcoming appointment: glucose challenge + midwife visit next week

How are you feeling?: Mostly good? Like I'm not super achey or anything that I really associate in my mind with pregnancy, but frequently I feel yucky: still have random waves of nausea, can't handle the heat, and I'm exhausted.

Have you started preparing for the birth? Want to share your plans?: Slowly. Making registry lists of the various baby things we need to replace, and I have had a few projects going (crocheted a reindeer this summer and working on sewing a few nb and 3m sleepers). My last midwife visit I started worrying about being back in a hospital setting after 2 births out of hospital, so asked some questions then and my midwife encouraged me to start writing out my "birth preferences". So I googled and found a couple premade plan checklists just so I even know WHAT all the hospital things are so I can think through them.

Anything else you want to share?: I really don't want to hurry the cold, wintry weather along... but if the temps could just come down a little bit that would be great! 😅

Upcoming appointment: midwife and glucose test next week

How are you feeling?: Mostly good, achey around the hips and low back.

Have you started preparing for the birth? Want to share your plans?: I’d like to go all-natural/unmedicated/as little intervention as possible. I’m just starting a course online by Bridget Teyler (Built to Birth). I really like her YouTube channel and have heard good things about her course.

Anything else you want to share?: Finally weaned my 2.5 year old! I nursed him for the last time for his nap on Friday. He cries and asks for milk when he’s going to sleep (my husband holds him and walks until he falls asleep), but he’s been quitting down and going to sleep within about 15 minutes each time (longest was the first time at about 30 minutes). It’s been going so much better than I expected, and it was just my own fear and emotions holding us back.
