Thoughts on the name Fia

Would love to know what people think of the name “Fia” for a girl (pronounced “Fee-Ah”). I know it can be short for a few things (Sofia, Fiona, Ophelia etc) but we don’t want that. We just want something short and sweet as our last name is long.

Is Fia pretty? Or is it weird?

I’ve always loved the name Mia but it’s too common, so this seems like a good alternative.

 Thanks!

Re: Thoughts on the name Fia

  • Fia feels incomplete to me and I think she'd have to correct people a lot. Thea is a pretty name that might fit what you are looking for.

  • I second the suggestion for Thea. Fia sounds weird and made up.

  • Fiadh is a real and popular Irish name that is pronounced that way. I'd only go that way if you at least have some Irish ancestry and are okay with constantly telling people how to pronounce the name (assuming you're not in Ireland, of course). It means wild or untamed.
  • My friend's daughter is named Fia. I'd never heard it before, but I've never heard anyone say anything negative about the name. My response when I heard it was just "cute!" and it really suits her now.
