1st Trimester

Meat Aversion

I’m 5 weeks today. I found out super early (3 1/2 weeks) with BOLD positive lines. HCG levels were 2,000 at 4 weeks and the symptoms have hit me ever since. Aside from being nauseous literally all day, I’m at the point where I can’t eat ANY meat. Nothing sounds good and I’m almost on a liquid diet at this point. I’m able to drink close to a gallon of water a day to stay hydrated, but I’m struggling to eat. My husband bought me some little things like peanuts, protein bars, apple sauce, chips and crackers, etc. to try. Has anyone else experienced this? What did you do and does it ever go away?

Re: Meat Aversion

  • Dealing with similar thing rn 😩 i'm 6&5days and at any given point there's almost nothing that I can even stomach the idea of. Struggling to eat enough of anything let alone protein too! I've heard it normally goes away in the 2nd trimester. But I've also found that eating something (anything to put something in my stomach) immediately when I wake up (hubby brings me a banana or cheese literally when he wakes me up) helps my overall food aversions for that morning.

  • Pretty normal. In my experience it did go away after a few weeks. But with my second I definitely didn’t like meat as much throughout. Just eat what you can and try not to stress about it. It will be okay! You might be able to get back into meat by 2nd tri. Even if not all kinds thats alright! Look for iron & protein from other sources :)
  • I’m experiencing this as well at 9 weeks. Hopefully it will get better soon, but for now I’m trying to get protein in other ways. Eggs, nuts, cheese & milk have been easier to stomach.. although some days I’m doing good if I can keep down a handful of saltines
  • My first pregnancy was this. I couldn't eat any meat, it made me gag. Even just the smell of it!! I had a lot of soups and a LOT of saltine crackers since I was constantly nauseous as well. Mine subsided around 12-13 weeks or so and I had an appetite back and could eat meat again. Currently I'm 8w4d and have a hard time getting liquids in. By the end of the day I feel gross and bloated and just not good. I'm hoping this is one that will go away or it'll be hard to stay hydrated... Good luck! I'd try to just find some good safe foods and try to always have them on hand. Do what you can and just stay hydrated and as fed as you can!
