Advice

Hey ladies, so I’m 22 weeks and 4 days pregnant. My hemoglobin keeps dropping it’s now a 7.7. I feel so tired and weak. I’m getting weekly iron infusions, but it doesn’t seem to help. i’m also having a lot of ligament pain and pressure down there, I went to the doctor. They said everything is normal and its because I’m having twins……I’m Currently working full-time as an infection preventionist at a long-term care facility, but I’m starting to think I need to take some time off now just so I can have more time to rest or maybe I’m just being dramatic. I don’t know 😩 I’m just really really tired 😪

Re: Advice

  • Yes, anemia might be more common with twin pregnancies, but no, you're not being dramatic. I don't know what your postpartum leave plans are, but if you can take some time off to rest, or maybe even some other accommodations like reduced hours... I think that's valid. All 3 of these factors (pregnancy, twins, and anemia) will make you tired and aren't going to just disappear after a week's vacation, but taking care of yourself is important. There's been a movement the last couple decades that "pregnant ladies aren't just delicate flowers!" But that doesn't mean we're unbreakable.

That's rough and I feel for you!

  • That's not what's going on here. You can still end up anemic while taking good prenatal vitamins and eating well. Last pregnancy I had to take an additional iron supplement to get my levels right. And in her post, she is doing weekly infusions, which is even more than what I had to do, and still her levels are low... so, not just a vitamin problem.

Also, you don't want your vitamins to have everything in one pill, like the ones in that link (and probably most prenatals). Calcium and Iron need to be taken at seperate times or you won't be able to absorb the iron.
