Nursing on demand issue

Hello. I am first time mom. My baby girl is 5 weeks. I breastfeed and nurse her on demand. When she was born she was 6 lbs 15 oz. At her 2 week appointment she was 8 lbs 5 oz. I don't know her weight now but she is a pretty hefty girl. She feel like maybe 11 to 13 lbs. She won't take an actual pacifier but uses me as a human pacifier (I have bought so many to try out but she doesn't like any). I try to pump but I just cant find the time. Also, pumping and breastfeeding on demand is hard. Does anyone have any advice? Also, I love the bonding I have with my baby girl as I am breastfeeding her. It's a just her and I thing that is so special.

Re: Nursing on demand issue

  • My daughter is EBF & she was 11 lbs 7 oz at her 4 week checkup. Nothing wrong with baby eating a lot. However my advice would be not to always use the breast as a pacifier. I did with my son & it was really difficult to wean him. But if she’s truly wanting to eat then let her! She shouldn’t really take in milk if she’s not hungry. If they’re too full they’ll usually spit up a lot. Also she went through a phase when she didn’t want the pacifier anymore but has been keen on taking it again the past few weeks(she’s almost 4 months). She takes the advent soothie & nanobebe

  • I’m experiencing a similar situation. Here for suggestions.
  • We’ve had most success with Mam and Bibbs pacifiers. In terms of breastfeeding on demand, my best advice is to make sure you’re eating enough and staying hydrated!! It is so hard and draining, make sure you’re refueling your body.
