Nipt says girl, but ultrasound says boy

edited August 2024 in 2nd Trimester
Hi! Just wanted to get an opinion from this community, i recently got an NIPT test that says my baby has a high chance of Turner's Syndrome(which 99% affects only girls, with a mortality rate of 99% during the 1st trimester). So i went to get a second opinion from another ObGyn, the ultrasound looks like a boy!

Please chime inon whether based from your experiences, this ultrasound result is that of a boy's or a girl's.

Many thanks!

P.s. i am currently at 16 weeks

  • Sounds like you need more testing

  • Your 2nd opinion OB/GYN should have re-ran your results.  I would be following up and asking for clarity.
  • I agree that you need to follow up and probably have more testing done. But I wanted to share my experience with you so that you have some more information if/when you speak to someone.  I want to preface this with, I am not in the medical field.  This is just information that I was given and also some information I found in medical journals.  I received a no results for the same test (for a girl).  After doing some research and also talking with a genetic counselor from the NIPT testing company, I found out that they are analyzing DNA from both the mother and the baby to test.  It is possible that we (the mother) have a form of Monosomy X (Turner's Syndrome) without knowing it.  The condition varies in severity.  You can have it and not have any symptoms or it could be life threatening.  We chose not to do further testing because it was no results and not high risk.
