How are you feeling?: This past week I started waking up at around 3:30am every night to go pee. That isn't a huge deal except there was one night it took me forever to get back to sleep. I hope the insomnia isn't starting just yet.
Rants/Raves: Rant - My daughter was supposed to have a blood draw on Saturday. We had an appointment but waited 45mins. They still hadn't called us back and she was getting fussy so we just told them we needed to reschedule and left.
Questions: I'm not a huge coffee drinker but every once in a while I need it. The drinks I usually get have too much caffeine. Any good recommendations? I tend to like sweeter drinks (plus the sugar is a nice boost as well)
GTKY: How is your culture/background important to you? The food. It's just such a comfort to me. My mom is Italian and my dad is Hungarian and Ukrainian. My dad's aunt used to cook all the time and my dad learned a few recipes from her but he always said that he wishes she wrote them down. So a few years ago, I got both of my parents blank recipe books for them to fill out and give back to me so we have something to pass down in the family.
Upcoming Appointments: Aug 22 Anatomy Scan (and hopefully FINALLY confirming the sexes of both babies)
How are you feeling?: Still feeling great! Thankful for that. I've joined a few twin mom Facebook groups and I keep seeing women 30+ weeks with their twins saying that they're just so uncomfortable and it hurts to walk much even. That said I'm really trying to focus on stretching and staying active daily, which my dr. recommended as well to hopefully maintain my mobility and comfortability as long as possible.
Rants/Raves: Dying to know the sex of both babies haha. My husband doesn't want to talk names too seriously until we know what we're having as well so praying we find out at our 8/22 appt.
Questions: Any STM/TTM, etc. who work from home while caring for children? That is our plan currently and would love to hear others' experiences and/or recommendations of best practices/things to do/things to buy or register for, etc.
GTKY: How is your culture/background important to you? Hmmm this one is a bit harder for me as I wouldn't say I feel a strong connection to my cultural background. I may add something here later on if I think of something in particular.
GTKY: How is your culture/background important to you? Not extremely, the most I could say is that my family dynamic wasn't great growing up. I've learned that family is chosen not forced by blood.
How are you feeling?: At night I feel like I flip sides constantly. My hips are sore and my arms keep falling asleep. At work I need to stand up every hour or it feels like the hips are locked. I've also had a lot of pulling/stretching under my bump already and it feels to early for that.
Questions: Anyone have any good resources for stretching exercises if you aren't particularly athletic?
GTKY: How is your culture/background important to you? With a super blended family, living in Africa, with an African partner, culture has become way more important to me than probably ever in my life. Its fun to introduce my kids to "American" things like chocolate chip cookies and the forth of july, while at the same time teaching them all the important things of their home culture here in Tanzania.
@kamays54 can you get the decaf version of whatever your usual drink is? I religiously drink a cup of regular coffee every morning, but on chilly evenings I will also have a cup of decaf if the mood strikes.
@kamays54 I really enjoy using protein shakes as creamer and flavor in my iced coffees. I use cold brew concentrate so I get a stronger flavor, but instead of adding water, I use a flavored protein shake like Fairlife or Premier. It tastes just like an iced latte from the coffee shop without a bunch of sugar, plus you’re getting protein and some extra nutrients.
If you’re a fan of the Fall flavors, Premier has a Pumpkin Spice flavor they release around this time and with the coffee concentrate it makes a great PSL dupe.
@kmtz89 I’ve really been focusing on pelvic floor work and hip stability right now to help with RLP and hopefully prevent SPD later. Cat/cow stretches, bird dog pose, wide knee child’s pose, kneeling low lunge stretches, side laying clam shells, wide squats, butterfly pose with side stretches, hip bridges… Prenatal Yoga is very gentle and beginner friendly and almost every pose has multiple levels of modifiers to match ability and flexibility.
Upcoming Appointments: aug 23 for monthly checkup and 1hr glucose test, and sep 5th for anatomy scan
How are you feeling?: great minus pregnancy rhinitis. I already deal with chronic post nasal drip, but pregnancy has it in overdrive. I’m tired of feeling like I’m constantly drowning in mucus.
Rants/Raves: I wish it wasn’t so long between ultrasounds! My last view of Baby Girl was at 10 weeks and it feels like forever! I’ve had dopplers since then, but it’s not the same as that visual assurance that everything is alright.
Questions: NATM
GTKY: How is your culture/background important to you?
I grew up surrounded by and immersed in a lot of cultural diversity. It’s something that’s always been very important when it comes to how I interact with others and also in raising socially conscious and respectful little humans.
I also grew up around some very emotionally illiterate and toxic individuals. That led to a lot of intentional self work and therapy to be able to acknowledge and break the cycle of generational trauma so that I wouldn’t continue those patterns with my own children.
Upcoming Appointments: Nothing until the end of August! Then anatomy scan September 5th (although we aren't finding out)
How are you feeling?: I finally feel great! I was never sick but SO SO tired. Coming out of that now.
Rants/Raves: Hating the in-between size of too chubby for regular clothes, can't fit in maternity yet haha.. Luckily it's summer and I have a lot of dresses!
Questions: n/a
GTKY: How is your culture/background important to you? Hmm, I never thought about this..
How are you feeling?: it's been up and down for me...I keep thinking ny nausea is gone for good, then I will have a day where I can't manage to keep any food down.
Rants/Raves: just sick of the vomiting! And looking forward to when I no longer need to take unisom every night, as it is keeping me feeling a little sluggish
Questions: where are you ladies creating your baby registries? Any sites that you've found to be more helpful than others?
GTKY: How is your culture/background important to you? My partner and I each happen to be half italian, and I think we both take a lot of pride in this especially when it comes to holiday traditions or pasta Sundays. It's something we are excited to pass on to our children
@kmtz89 and @Mamazon2014 thanks for the suggestions! I haven't tried decaf so I will give that a try. Right before I got pregnant again I tried a cold brew and was surprised at how much I liked it. I never would have thought about adding a protein shake but that sounds really good.
@kendyb77 my husband works for his mom out of her house. So when I went back to work, he took her with him to work until she was about 14-15 months. I can't really speak to best practices but I know a big thing for him was a safe place to put her down. When she was little, it was her bassinet. We bought the Dream on me Karley bassinet for both our house and his mother's. He liked it because it was easy to move so if it was really loud in one area of the house he could move her and the monitor to another room easily. We also liked that it has a canopy that zips closed. We both have cats and dogs so it was comforting when she was in another room that we could close it. When she got older and more mobile, it was the playpen and toys to keep her busy. At his mother's house, his sister already had a plastic modular one that you could change the size of and was easy to put up and take down. At our house we have one that is a little more permanent. It is similar to this one on Amazon: https://a.co/d/5kMWqhj
@jaclyn-ak Babylist was mentioned in another thread. I tried it out and so far like it better than The Bump and Amazon, which I used last time.
How are you feeling?: so much more tired, but luckily mostly just occurring in the early evening. I’m falling asleep an hour earlier than normal!!
Rants/Raves: NATM
Questions: anybody else getting nosebleeds like crazy?? I’ve had maybe 5 in my lifetime before pregnancy and now have had 5+ in the last 2 weeks!!
GTKY: How is your culture/background important to you? I’m proud of many of the underlying values of the Ashkenazi Jewish people and teachings which I share (e.g. balance, flexibility, moderation, tradition) despite not being raised in the Jewish faith. My husband is mixed race and we are having a lot of conversations already about how we want to teach and embrace our/her unique and varied cultures. It’s complex!
Baby is the size of a (an): artichoke (and weighs as much as hamster today according to the app lol)
Team blue/pink/green: pink
Upcoming Appointments: anatomy scan at the end of the month
How are you feeling?: Mentally & emotionally - I am feeling pretty good even though life keeps throwing curveballs at us! Physically - I am experiencing a LOT of back and hip pain. The pain is really bad when I stand up after sitting or laying down. I am going to try doing more prenatal yoga and I think I am going to schedule a few appointments with my pelvic floor PT even though she is so expensive (make that money girl and she is incredible but my wallet hurts)
Rants/Raves: natm
Questions: natm
GTKY: How is your culture/background important to you? love this question although it is hard for me to answer. This might sound weird, but I feel really connected to the culture of my state - Kentucky. I'm not talking about the policies or politics here. Kentucky has a really unique culture deeply rooted in agriculture, bourbon, horses, Appalachia, story telling, southern hospitality, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the land. Kentuckians are usually stereotyped by the rest of the US as hillbillies so I think there is also some sense of freedom and comradery between Kentuckians knowing how great the people of this state actually are. There is a quote that resonates with nearly every Kentuckian I know, “I never met a Kentuckian who wasn't either thinking about going home or actually going home.” ― Happy Chandler
@fk18 not nose bleeds but I have noticed that I'm bleeding more. Like for example just popping a normal pimple, which normally wouldn't bleed at all, bleeds enough to leave a scab.
@bcml I love that. It doesn't sound weird at all. I'm an Italian from NJ and I think @jaclyn-ak can back me up on this but we are very proud of NJ. We also have a saying, "you can take the girl out of Jersey, but you can't take the Jersey out of the girl" lol. I think feeling connected to where and how you grew up can be just as important (and sometimes more important) than your cultural background. I was very fortunate to grow up in a very diverse area and like @Mamazon2014 I want to make sure that my children are respectful and welcoming of all different backgrounds.
How are you feeling?: fairly normal overall, other than general annoying pregnancy things (always starving, rhinitis, out of breath). That is except for…
Rants/Raves: I have the worst cold right now 😭 and I can’t just blast it into oblivion with cold meds, so I’m struggling! Especially with eating - I don’t feel like eating but if I don’t I get so hungry I feel ill. I did Instacart saline spray and ramen haha and I’m looking forward to taking benedryl tonight!
Questions: none for now
GTKY: How is your culture/background important to you? I’m Jewish and it’s a huge part of my identity - I’m not very observant but culturally it’s incredibly important. My husband was raised Catholic and is now atheist so we’ve had a lot of conversations about it, and thankfully he understands that I want our kid to understand where the family came from.
@kamays54 I’ve been drinking half-caf for a while and it’s easy to order at any cafe! At Starbucks, a half caf shaken espresso is great. Full decaf is good too if I’ve already had enough caffeine for the day. Decaf coffee has come a long way over the past few years!
How are you feeling?: Exhausted and lots of pulling and stretching in my abdomen. Definitely got some round ligament pain going, hard to get comfortable.
Rants/Raves: Hmmmmm, nothing notable either direction. Too tired! 😂
Questions: anyone else with some round ligament pain? Tips?
GTKY: How is your culture/background important to you? Gosh, im very interested in incorporating lots of different cultures and elements into my daily life and family. Whether those be from our families or from friends or from travels. I don’t know if I feel I have any one defined culture or background but rather aim to be a citizen of the world and try to keep things diverse and interesting!
