Scheduled C-Section

I want to schedule a planned c-section for my second pregnancy. My first pregnancy was also a c-section. The reason I want to schedule one is to be prepared just in case my body doesn't go into labor on its own. I had to be induced with my first baby. The issu is that I want to schedule the c-section at 40-42 weeks to be prepared. If I go into labor on my own before then I will TOLAC, and if not I will go in for the c-section. The issue is that my doctor is only giving me the option to schedule a c-section at 39 weeks and says there is no other option. I either schedule it for 39 weeks or go to a different doctor to try for a VBAC. Can I get some advice/insight on this?

Re: Scheduled C-Section

  • That's a tricky situation because it seems like your doctor has their protocols. I think it's worth having another conversation with them asking to wait until 40w isn't unreasonable. They can't make you do anything but it will certainly be less stressful if you can get a care pan set out in advance.

I'm planning for a second vbac with baby number 3. Maby looking for a vbac friendly doctor will give you more options even if you end up having a repeat section.

Ultimately you need to think about what you want from the birth. I'm assuming you had a pretty bad experience last time. So what would you like this time? If it's predictability go for the section, if you want to experience labour and try for a vaginal birth got for the vbac.

With my second there was a point late in pregnancy when they thought I might need a section. So I had the consultation, spoke to the anaesthetist and signed all the forms and consents so that was all done, even though I didn't end up needing a sectionin the end.
