Too much weight gain?!

Hi all! Maybe I’m just overthinking but everything online says between 1-5 pounds in your first trimester and I’m probably closer to 8-10 and I’ve been SO HUNGRY! I’m confident that I can keep the 1 pound per week for the rest but I don’t know if I’ve started off on the wrong foot qlready. I’ve been gently working out and walking a ton but feeling like maybe I should be more careful…?

Re: Too much weight gain?!

  • I'm sure your weight gain will even out over the next trimesters. It's good that you're aware though, and tracking it. I'm 5'ft 7" tall and always fluctuated between 150-153 lbs pre-pregnancy. I'm now 158lbs, so I don't know if I've technically gained 5 or 8 lbs😅. I haven't really had food aversions, but I have had a lot of nausea. I only get a brief break from nausea when I'm in the act of eating, so I know I ate more than usual to achieve some relief. I feel pretty confident that I've been eating intuitively and making healthy food choices. My hope is that I start having less nausea in the second trimester and can handle longer walks with my dog and some elliptical workouts, etc. Overall, I'm not worried. My belly is popping out now, and my breasts are bigger, but otherwise, I can't really see or feel the extra weight gain.
I did fertility treatments and I heard that can make you gain a little extra in the first trimester compared to a natural pregnancy.
Plus, the more you exercise, the hungrier you get. In pregnancy, I feel like women need to eat a little extra to actually fuel their workouts, since you're not after a calorie deficit, but rather the physical health benefits. So you might need extra fuel just to be able to work out. Afterall, your body is busy using up your resources to grow a lil' human. It probably doesn't want to spare anything for workouts. 😉
Sounds like you're mindful of everything. Personally, I'm going to carry on intuitively eating and doing gentle exercise for now, but I'll keep an eye on the scale. I'm 11 weeks 5 days, so the second trimester is in view!

    Good luck!
