Delivery plans

Hi everyone! I have started to think about delivery plans with my doctor. I have a history of pelvic pain and some complicated medical issues so I am leaning on the side of an elective c-section. This is my first baby so I am also dealing with a lot of anxiety revolving around birth and fear of after-birth complications especially with pelvic pain. I am wondering how others are making this decision and any insight you all might have. Thanks!

Re: Delivery plans

  • Baby #4 for me. 2 were spontaneous labors and 1 I drank castor oil and labor started that day. All ended in uneventful vaginal deliveries, I also had an epidural with each. Plan for this lil guy is pretty much the same: wait til I go into labor, make pain interventionrequests as I go and hopefully have another uneventful vaginal delivery.
I’m adamantly against C-sections unless medically necessary. Birth is a messy, crazy, life changing experience however baby gets out of you, but I’d much prefer post-vaginal recovery vs. post-surgical (i.e. C-section) plus there are risks in having multiple C-sections so something to consider if you want a handful of kids.
You mentioned anxiety about pelvic pain: comes in the aftermath of C-sections and vaginal deliveries as your uterus shrinks back down to size (and holy cow the breastfeeding cramps are AWFUL) but you’ll have a lot more pelvic pain with a C-section as they are literally cutting through that area. With a vaginal delivery or any birth that involves pushing, your vaginal-rectal area definitely needs some TLC post-delivery.
