    FTM/STM/TTM+: STM

Baby is the size of a (an): Pomegranate

    Team blue/pink/green: Blue

Upcoming Appointments: Just had one Friday (see rant below) and the next one is the anatomy scan on Aug 23rd

How are you feeling?: Well I just threw up...and almost didn't make it to the bathroom.  I was my fault though.  I took my vitamins and then someone walked into my office so I wasn't able to eat my breakfast.  Last Monday and Tuesday I woke up at around 1:30am feeling like I was going to throw up.  Monday I woke up a 2nd time and ended up making myself throw up so I could get some sleep.  This happened with my first but I feel like it was in my third trimester.  It hasn't happened since so I'm just hoping it was a one off thing for now.  Also, just tired a lot still and the heat is not helping

Rants/Raves: Supposedly I was supposed to get lab work done before my appointment.  The lady that checked me out last time only gave me the genetic kit and order for it and not the order for the other blood work.  I just saw the PA this time and she said it wasn't a huge deal and I can just get it done before my next appointment but this felt like a wasted appointment.  I did get to hear his heartbeat so not a complete waste.

    Questions: NATM

GTKY: Which of your personality traits are you most proud of?  Easygoing.  I know things don't always go as planned so it is easy for me to just go with the flow and not let those things bother me.  For me, getting upset and worrying about things is so draining.  I know some who thrive on it and it just baffles me.  Don't get me wrong, I still worry about things but I think it is easier for me to push those worries out of my mind (at least for a little bit).

    Upcoming Appointments: 8/7

How are you feeling?: normal. Besides the back and round ligament pain, and the lack of being able to breathe, it's like before I was pregnant.

Rants/Raves: The ease of getting sick SUCKS. I've been fighting a UTI for 2 weeks now, and anytime I've wanted to do something I constantly worry about getting sick.

Questions: I've read that my little man has started to be able to hear my voice, when will he be able to hear my husband's? Oh and when will I finally start to feel him kick 😭

GTKY: Which of your personality traits are you most proud of?
So I didn't know how to answer this question, so I asked my husband and he says that he's most proud of my ability to love, my ability to hold a grudge, and the fact that I wear my heart on my sleeve and that it makes me very caring.

Rants/Raves: I suddenly got hooked on this mushroom/spinach/garlicky stir fry that I'm fixated on

Questions: did you guys announce on social media? I'm thinking about doing it in the next week or so since I am so far from most people I know. But I've already told everyone I'm close with personally.

GTKY: Which of your personality traits are you most proud of? my loyalty. I'm a ride or die type for sure. sometimes to a fault

    Team blue/pink/green: 💙

    Upcoming Appointments: today! Yay!

How are you feeling?: Pretty darn good except for a bit a nausea coming back! It’s fleeting so not terrible but yesterday I couldn’t believe it! Nausea? Again? I’m reading my other 17 week moms are also having the same! So interesting!

Rants/Raves: This week not ranting or raving much! I am just taking it easy and it was a fairly straightforward week so I will take it!

Questions: I need input on the whole sleeping on your back thing! At 17 weeks, can I still sleep on my back? I love sleeping on my back and it still feels good and normal to do so but goodness they freak you out on this app and other places with the dangers of back sleeping! Every article sites different times in pregnancy when this officially begins. Any insight?

GTKY: Which of your personality traits are you most proud of? Hmmmm probably my humor, we love to laugh in my family and I love being light hearted and laughing until I am crying! Laughter is the best medicine!

@kmtz89 I am also wondering about social media. I was thinking about waiting until late August but for no particular reason. I also even thought about waiting until my baby shower and then post pics from that event. Everyone I am close to knows now so social media is really me extended extended group!
  • @amcgill174 I'm not sure when they can start hearing other voices.  Everything I read says something different.  But it sounds like anytime between 18-24 weeks.  As for feeling the baby, I think I might have mentioned somewhere else that I didn't feel my first until like week 21 or 22.  I also should mention that I had an anterior (in the front) placenta so it was harder for me to feel her in general.  That's why I wasn't even really sure I felt her when I did.
I love your husbands answer.  That is so sweet and those are great traits to have.

@kmtz89 I have social media but rarely post.  My mom on the other hand couldn't wait to tell everyone.  Same with my first.  So once we found out the gender, I put together a cute announcement and let her post it.  I also let her tell my brother both times because she was so excited and wanted to tell people so that's how I let her tell someone early lol.  We told all of our close friends and family already.
I was waffling between easygoing and loyal!  I feel like I am very loyal but I also value honesty.  Because I'm easy going, when someone isn't honest with me (especially if I ask them directly) then I can't trust them anymore.  It hasn't happened a lot but that is why I picked easygoing over loyal.

@jojosesame I'm surprised that us 17 week-ers are all feeling that nausea again too.  As for sleeping, I'm a side sleeper but with my first there were times I would wake up on my back.  What I remember is that it's not the worse position and if you wake up on your back you shouldn't worry but that you should try to sleep on your side as much as possible.
Love your personality answer too!  These are all great answers.

Upcoming Appointments: Had one today which was great! Always so reassuring to see/hear them.

How are you feeling?: Feeling great! Still always tired haha

    Rants/Raves: NATM

    Questions: NATM

GTKY: Which of your personality traits are you most proud of? Hmmmm, I think that I have a knack for at creating little traditions and adding fun or specialness to little everyday moments like candles at dinner, drinking coffee on our balcony every weekend in special glasses just for that, our weekly tradition of watching the sunset at the beach every week with a picnic, and planning little get togethers with our friends...I'm so so excited to have more special memories and traditions with our babies and build a really special and intentional family culture.

@kmtz89, We're in a similar boat, in that pretty much all the people we are close with know for the most part. But now that the secret's out and the babies are continuing to look good, I think we'll post this week. We're going to snap a couple photos at this week's little beach picnic with a couple of matching baby onesies I picked up and some ultrasound photos.
  • @jojosesame I’ve also been confused about sleeping! I read an article here that said left side is best, and even right side is not great. I’ve been tossing and turning for a week trying to make sure I stay on my left side! But after talking to some friends yesterday and doing a little more googling, I think either side is just fine. Back should be avoided but if you end up there, it’s not a big deal, you’ll wake up if it gets uncomfortable and then just turn over. (I do like sleeping on my back too though so this has been annoying!)

Upcoming Appointments: August 15th for anatomy scan

How are you feeling?: i feel great as long as i take my unisom+b6. Tried a few days without and though im ok, i still felt nauseous throughout the day and id rather not feel nauseous at all.

Rants/Raves: my husband works this week and then he has 3 weeks of vacation. So excited to have him home. We’re planning to travel the first week and a half and then be home. Hope we can get some hikes in and do more berry picking during the days.

    Questions: nothing now

GTKY: Which of your personality traits are you most proud of?
I’m pretty relaxed and do must things flying by the seat of my pants and doing what feels natural. I find this benefits me immensely as a mom, especially the doing what feels right and natural rather than stressing about if I'm doing it “right” or not. There are way too many opinions out there about parenting, especially feeding and sleeping🤪
  • @amcgill174 i didnt feel my babies kick until around 18 weeks both previous times. This time i think if felt something now at almost 18weeks but not for sure. Also when you feel kicks depends on your placenta placement. If its on the front it’ll take longer, even up to 25 weeks😊

@jojosesame my midwife said that you’ll know when to not sleep on your back. It’ll be uncomfortable and you’ll wake up breathless.

Upcoming Appointments: nothing until the end of August, then I have my regular OB checkup and my anatomy scan a week later!

How are you feeling?: Pretty good lately! Energy is up, nausea is down, and I’ve been feeling little one fluttering around more and more.

Rants/Raves: My mom is moving in with us in a month! We have lived on opposite sides of the country for the last 6 years and we’re both tired of short visits and missing milestones, so now that she’s retired and we’re expecting, she will be living with us as a full time grandma and a care taker for baby girl so that I can continue to work and earn my degree without having to pay for daycare. My oldest is absolutely thrilled because he and grandma are best buds and now she gets to go on field trips and attend all of his extracurriculars with us!

GTKY: Which of your personality traits are you most proud of?

Oh goodness, I think the overarching trait that plays into so many others is my enthusiasm and gusto towards life. Sure, part of it is just classic ADHD dopamine mining, but I love to experience and try new things, to explore new places or learn something new. I’m very much a kid at heart and it serves me as a mom and in my work as an elementary educator. I love having a mindset that allows me to continue to grow, evolve, and still experience the magic and wonder of the world around me.

How are you feeling?:  overall OK, just sleepier and noticing I’m more fatigued after my runs. I hope this isn’t my body/baby girl telling me I can’t run anymore 😣

Rants/Raves: I’m thrilled to have family visiting from out of town beginning today and to have a mini gender reveal. I am a bit nervous about this drop in energy I’ve had lately.

    Questions: NATM

GTKY: Which of your personality traits are you most proud of?
My staunch optimism. It drives me each day, and helps a lot in my work as an addiction psychologist. I’m hopeful it will make me a better mom, too. I grew up with a Debbie downer of a mom and my biggest fear is that I will become her. This trait reminds me I’m not her.
  • fk18fk18 member

@kmtz89, at this point we are not planning on a social media reveal. Everyone we love and care about is getting personal reveals and I’m also just not that active/open on social media. We have also decided we will likely limit posts of baby girl upon her arrival. The internet is a crazy place!!

@jojosesame, I asked my OB about this just a couple weeks ago. I’m also a back sleeper and she welcomed that until we get those signals we can’t do it anymore. Her rankings were: left side > right side > back, for best to worst positions. I think we should all just focus on getting the best sleep we can until we lose that luxury haha

How are you feeling?: nauseous and tired :( but still very excited

Rants/Raves: The nausea! I've been having a very difficult time with nausea and vomiting. It seemed like it was improving for a while, but the nausea has come back full force. This is the least I have weighed in years and it is becoming very upsetting/stressful. I feel totally drained and defeated, especially today

    Questions: None at the moment

GTKY: Which of your personality traits are you most proud of?
Hmm... I think I am a very compassionate person, lots of love to give and very understanding.

I hope all of you are doing well! Wishing everyone a safe/easy/happy pregnancy!

How are you feeling?: I am feeling pretty good! I've got some pretty tough back & hip pain though.

    Rants/Raves: natm

Questions: I think I remember someone recommending a pregnancy workout app? I am looking for something to do at home that will help address my hip and back pain as well as help with general flexibility and strength. My amazing PT is private pay so I am hoping to try an app before I book sessions with her. Any suggestions?

@bcml I think it was last week’s thread that we discussed workout apps? Or two weeks ago? Anyway I recommended the Plus+1 app by Stronger By the Day. It’s not free (there is a free trial week I think) but it’s really well done.

How are you feeling?: The worst symptom now is feeling out of breath, which I’ve been feeling on and off the whole time. Also I’m tired but tbh that’s my norm no matter what. Otherwise I’m feeling pretty ok!

Rants/Raves: I was able to see some old friends this past week and we all talked pregnancy, which was delightful. My current friend group has a lot of single/non parenting friends, which is often great, but it was so nice to dive into the details and not worry about anyone getting bored of it!

Questions: I was going to ask about sleeping positions but someone else beat me to it. I’m glad I’m not alone in being confused!

GTKY: Which of your personality traits are you most proud of? My ability to keep calm under pressure, and my empathy.

@kamays54 I get so excited every time I see other Jersey girls on here haha :) I'm in Morristown now but raised in Randolph. How is AZ treating you? Hope your pregnancy is going smoothly so far 💕
  • @jaclyn-ak That's about 30-40mins from where I grew up.  I was in Linden until I was 10 then moved one town over to Roselle.  I love where I'm at and I built my life here but I definitely miss NJ.  My family and best friends are there and I really miss the actual seasons.  Right now we are in hibernation mode lol.  Hope you are feeling a little better today and the nausea doesn't last too long!
