Weight gain

Question please don't judge.
I'm struggling with my weight gain. I have always been watching my weight, exercise,
eating healthy but since I got pregnant I gained 10 lbs (I'm 12 weeks) and I don't think this is healthy. Please any advice? I feel huge.

Re: Weight gain

  • I’d try not to stress about weight gain. They say 20lbs for the whole pregnancy is “healthy” but i have many friends who gain a lot more and them and their babies are healthy and fine. One friend is very thin to begin with and gained 50lbs during pregnancy and lost it all not long after. If you’re eating decently and exercising/walking when you can, our bodies do what they need to do to grow babies.

@knottie. I totally get where you are coming from…this week alone I gained almost 3 lbs 😳. That being said, I would check with your provider to see if it’s actually unhealthy. Many many women gain at that rate during pregnancy. Keep in mind, there are significant risks to having an underweight baby. The more you gain, the better you may be caring for your little one inside ❤️.

knottie853faac0ebefdfb0 I’m currently 9 weeks and have gained almost 10 lbs as well, however considering that my main symptom has been extreme hunger I’m trying to give myself some grace! I feel ok knowing that I am still staying active and mainly eating healthy. The rest sometimes we cannot control. This weekend I started putting clothes away that no longer fit so that they are out of sight and I feel less discouraged when it’s time to get dressed. I thought I would have more time before I was at the “nothing fits me” stage but You’re not alone! And I wouldn’t be too worried unless your doctor thinks it’s an issue!

I had been on the pill, and got pregnant basically immediately after stopping, and something I didn't know is when you stop the pill extreme hunger is common! I literally felt like I could eat a house. I gained almost 10 lbs right off the bat, like before 7 weeks. Now that I'm not starving all the time my weight gain has plateaued thankfully.

I did buy some bigger clothes and that has made me feel better about it too, not trying to force myself into my old clothes and just realizing yes, I'm pregnant, my body is going to change.

  • I was at a good healthy weight for my height before I got pregnant (4’11” 104 lbs) but between Week 6 when I found out, to Week 11 my first OB appt, I had gained 10 lbs! I couldn’t stop eating because I felt nauseous all the time and eating was the only thing that helped a little bit. I too felt really defeated because I had worked hard to maintain my weight. Gaining 10 lbs in 5 weeks is mentally draining. But I keep trying to remind myself that it’s okay and now that I’m feeling better in my second trimester I’ve been eating healthier and exercising more. Good luck!
