Weekly Check-in, w/o July 22nd

Added a few suggestions.  Just answer what you feel comfortable answering.

Also, I know there are a lot of abbreviations that get used.  Here is a link to The Bumps Glossary: https://www.thebump.com/community-glossary
But here are the ones used below: EDD = Estimated Delivery Date, FTM = First Time Mom, STM = Second Time Mom, TTM+ = Third Time Mom or more, GTKY = Get to Know You

If your username is still knottie, consider changing it so that we can reply to you more personally.  The first discussion in this group walks you through it and you can use that thread to test out your new username.

Baby is the size of a (an): Avocado

    Team blue/pink/green: Blue

    Upcoming Appointments: This Friday

How are you feeling?: The further I get into the 2nd trimester the better I'm feeling.  Still pretty tired but the nausea has almost gone away completely.  I have been dealing with some constipation but not enough to have to take anything for it yet.

Rants/Raves: Not really a rant more just sad.  My parents recently started doing the snowbird thing, usually coming out around the end of October and staying until right before Thanksgiving.  Then coming back the beginning of January and staying until the first week of May.  I just found out that they are not coming for the Oct-Nov trip and are just coming out right after Christmas and staying until the first week of May.  I'm glad they are coming out a little earlier in case the baby is born in December but I'm still just a little sad

Questions: Since the baby's room is empty, I have been starting to look at decorations more and more.  My sister-in-law had themes for both her kids.  We didn't have a theme with our first.  I'm curious if you are planning on a themed baby room or not?  And if so, what theme are you thinking about?

GTKY: Do you like to make plans ahead of time, or do things more spontaneously?  Definitely more spontaneous.  I am very much go with the flow.  I will plan things when it is needed but I also know things don't like to go as planned so I'm really easy going in the moment.

GTKY: Do you like to make plans ahead of time, or do things more spontaneously?

I'd say a mixture of both. I typically am the group planner if we have an outing. However, if it's just me and the hubby, I don't stress about planning.

How are you feeling?: Pretty good, stoked to be in the 2nd trimester! Still really tired all the time.

GTKY: Do you like to make plans ahead of time, or do things more spontaneously? I tend to be a big planner personally and for like group events, but am definitely more chill/go with the flow when it comes to day to day plans with my husband.

How are you feeling?: Pretty solid but exhausted. Out of breath easily. It’s hard to be reminded pretty consistently that I just can’t quite function at the level I could before. Tough lesson I keep learning over and over again!

Rants/Raves: I mentioned before we were looking at houses…well we found one and are in escrow and will move in about a month. I’m losing it. Part of it is stress but also part of it has to do with my emotions and I’m just not as in control of myself - just cry and cry and feel like I don’t have a good handle on myself. But then I can feel ok in the next minute. Need all the good vibes you can send me 🙏🏼

Questions: Going to use this section to answer a question…

@kamays54 - we dont have a theme and I wouldn’t know even where to start! I think it’s amazing when moms have cute themes and everything is well thought out but that is not my super power at all so I am going for peaceful and cozy without any specific theme per se. Just going to be happy with that!

GTKY: Do you like to make plans ahead of time, or do things more spontaneously? I like both! I think it depends on the situation but I love planning and things that are well executed because it’s restful but I also love spontaneity and being able to go with the flow when needed. I’ve found later in my life striking that balance is crucial!

    Upcoming Appointments: Next Thursday

How are you feeling?: better and better, but also sore! My hips and lower back are getting really achy. I went on a longer walk and stretched yesterday, thinking that doing some extra moving would help work the pain out —nope! Now considering going to a chiropractor, which I’ve always been skeptical of, but I’m up for trying anything

Rants/Raves: just so relieved to know we are having a girl. We would have been excited for either, but simply knowing has made it so much more real!

Questions: none today, but I’ll comment on others

@kamays54 April I’m sorry about you’re parents not getting to come this fall! It’s hard to do this with family far away. My mom won’t get to come until a few weeks before the due date which is a huge bummer. On the bright side, it’s making this whole pregnancy more of a me and my husband thing. And I’m trying to remember that it’s our family we are making now, which has made it a little sweeter. As for the nursery theme, I know I want to do one, but I am so undecided! Just a personal taste thing, but I’m really not a fan of the traditional pink-girl nursery. I also don’t like the themes that scream “baby” because there is no way I’ll be redecorating within the next few years…

@jojosesame Jo, congratulations on the house!!! That’s so exciting! Praying for the process to be smooth and for the hormones to level out some so you feel more like yourself. You mentioned having to be reminded that you can’t quite function at the same level that you usually do and man, what a hard thing to get used to! With dealing with the emotions and how limited I feel, I’ve been trying to focus more on self care and seeing that as taking care of baby. I’m leaning into taking baths, stretching, reading and really anything that feels calming but doesn’t take too much energy. I don’t know how crazy your moving schedule is to get it all done in a month, but maybe trying to schedule some of that in would help make it feel more manageable?

GTKY: Do you like to make plans ahead of time, or do things more spontaneously?
I’m usually a huge planner, but I’m finding that I am terrible at gadging my energy levels right now. I’ll plan something to do after work, but by the time I get off and go to do it, my tank is already on E. So spontaneity is the way to go right now!

    Upcoming Appointments: today!

How are you feeling?: doing good minus the insomnia at night and post nasal drip. Struggling with BDD, but trying really hard to give myself grace.

Rants/Raves: husband’s new insurance is taking its sweet time to go through so I have to pay OOP for this upcoming appointment.

    GTKY:

Both? I have ADHD and try to make plans ahead of time so I can get all my ducks in a row and know everything I need to know, but I sometimes regret making the plans when the day finally hits and my social meter is nill (or if, you know, I make future plans not expecting to be pregnant during…)

I also like doing things spur of the moment when the mood strikes. My friends and I go to a lot of trivia, karaoke, drag shows, and random events locally, so it’s not usual for one of us to text with a random opportunity we just found and be like “pick you up at 5?”

  • @kmtz89 Happy (early) Birthday!!!

@jojosesame congratulations on finding a house!  Once you start settling in and getting things the way you want, hopefully you will start to feel better.  Sending you good vibes and positive energy!
That's what we did with my daughter.  I just picked out things that I liked and thought were cute.  So she has animal with flowers, a unicorn, a wood sign with her name, and I love The Beatles so my parents got me 2 of the Lego mosaic sets so she has George and Ringo on her walls lol.  The more I think about it, I think I'm just going to do the same this time.  I like the idea of a theme but I also like the variety.
  • @Mamazon2014 that's frustrating with the insurance.  Hopefully it gets straightened out quickly.  I had a lot of issues with new insurance 2 months before my daughter was born so I understand how stressful and frustrating insurance can be.

Team blue/pink/green: PINK! (we just found out a few hours ago when we got our NIPT results back!)

Upcoming Appointments: tomorrow - July 24th for a quick midwife visit. I see them monthly now

How are you feeling?: I am feeling really excited to have a girl! Physically - I am feeling pretty good, getting energy back, minimal discomfort. Emotionally - still feeling some big emotions! Some are good - I have never been more in love with my husband. But some are not so great - anxiety is ramping up and more crying.

Rants/Raves: I had a really really big cry last night when I found stretch marks on my boobs.  :'( honestly, I am really struggling with the physical changes and impacts on my body. I used to be president of the itty bitty titty committee and now my boobs hurt all the time and are physically looking different than I would prefer. I am struggling to let go of some internalized fatphobia and body shaming. I also realized that I imagined myself cruising through pregnancy with very little physical impacts on my body and that is an extremely unrealistic idea. I am also comparing my body to other people a lot which is absolutely not helpful.

    Questions: natm

GTKY: Do you like to make plans ahead of time, or do things more spontaneously?
Both! I saw someone else talk about the enneagram. I am a 7w5 so I love doing everything all the time lol but I am also ADHD with anxiety so plans are really helpful for me. I have found that I do best when I have some loose plans with flexibility within those plans.

@kamays54 I think our spaces are meant to bring us joy so I would encourage you to fill that baby room with anything that makes you feel joyful <3

@jojosesame congrats on the new house! Moving is a huge life stressor though. I definitely think you have every right to be feeling lots of big emotions. Any kind of change has a lot of emotional layers which usually includes some grief. Sending you love and grace for yourself.

@Mamazon2014 I feel you with the social battery and plans! Sometimes I am so annoyed with my former self for being so optimistic about social plans earlier in the week!

Upcoming Appointments: not again until 8/22 :(

How are you feeling?:  More exhausted and my boobs hurt again! I’ve probably been pushing myself a little too hard with work and exercise and baby girl is asking me to slow down. It’s hard not to think “2nd trimester should be easy, suck it up, it’s going to get so much harder!”

Rants/Raves: Raving that we heard our little’s heartbeat on the Doppler at our OB office last week and it was so exciting!

Questions: how many of you are planning on a pregnancy photo shoot? We’ve been taking basic phone photos to track progress but not sure if I want to pay for the formal shoot

GTKY: Do you like to make plans ahead of time, or do things more spontaneously?
Both! I like to yield with certain friends and family members, but I’m the planner out of me and my husband. It’s nice to have a balance, and not hold all that pressure all the time.

@kamays54, we are still brain storming! When we moved in, there was actually a little girls room painted bright pink and with a bunch of very stereotypical girlie stencils. We hated it, painted it green, and it became a gym 😂. I guess we won’t be going too girly or pink for our nursery.

Our actually nursery is just white, so we might go with some fun, gender neutral stencils of our own that are easily removable, so when our little girls interests start to blossom more as she gets older, we can easily transform to her preferences ♥️
  • What a great thread and group! I loved all these posts this week and all the interaction! It’s so reassuring to know that so many of us have the same feelings, experience similar physical symptoms and can relate to each other despite being from different places! Really appreciate all the kind words and well wishes on our house - it’s been hard to be excited and you all have helped so much! 💙
  • @fk18 I feel you on the pregnancy photoshoot...personally I feel like I'd rather wait and save the money to get some nice photos done when the babies are here to document the newborn season, and will stick with phone photos or maybe ask a friend/family member with a nicer camera to take a couple photos of me/my husband with the bump for like our Christmas card or something. But idk, several mom friends did pregnancy photos and loved them!
  • @fk18 all of out walls were beige when we moved in and we just kept them that way.  It is nice to have a neutral color so that you can decorate it in different ways if you don't have/want a theme.  We actually thought the same way about their preferences.  Its funny because now that I think about it, both of my sister-in-laws kids never even really liked the movies that she based their rooms on.

As for the pregnancy photo shoot, I didn't do it last time.  I just took photos starting when I felt like I was showing.  I'm a bigger girl and have struggled with how I look in pictures.  It wasn't until I started showing that I started to feel better about the way I looked.  I would have liked to do a newborn photo shoot but we just had a lot going on so I didn't have time to plan it.  I probably won't do it this time either.

How are you feeling?: I still feel nauseous every day, not as bad as the first trimester, but I gag when I eat and just feel nauseous at different points of the day. When will it stop?! haha My bump is also getting bigger and quite honestly, making me so uncomfortable. I've actually thought (being a FTM), how does the body expand that way, am I going to be able to breathe? lol I'm getting used to my bump, but wow what an adventure so far - the female body is amazing. @fk18 I'm totally with you on the "it's 2nd trimester, isn't it supposed to be easier" but then feeling like it's still hard lol

Rants/Raves: It's been difficult to sleep with the growing bump. I bought a pregnancy pillow - doesn't really help haha. Bought another one to see if it works better, hopefully it does.

Questions: Anyone else feeling like they are no longer "in their body" due to all the changes and the growing bump? For FTMs, are you "grieving" (not necessarily in a bad way) your pre-pregnancy life (e.g., the freedom lol) and thinking about how life will be so different now?

GTKY: Do you like to make plans ahead of time, or do things more spontaneously? Both! I can be a meticulous planner when it counts, but I also love to be spontaneous, go with the flow and not commit to many things. Really just depends on what it is and the priority it takes in my life (and if it requires or would be smarter to plan)!

  • @peacefuladventures I am also struggling with the pregnancy pillow! I am just starting to feel like I need it but so far have tried two and really not enjoying them!

I am also absolutely grieving my former life. Not at all in a bad way or that I wish anything were different but absolutely miss some of the things I could easily do before! I am also preparing myself for once baby comes and that really changes things. It’s such a process and I am just trying to embrace each stage and also allow myself to feel whatever comes up. What a rollercoaster!
  • @peacefuladventures I am absolutely grieving pre-pregnancy life! We are so excited to be pregnant and meet our first baby, but I’m also cringing at the idea of slowing down at work over these next months. I’m just now trying to get back into hanging out with friends which completely dropped off when I was dealing with first trimester symptoms. It is still so hard and exhausting. Then thinking about the months after baby comes where we’ll be sleep deprived and missing in action for however long…. What a road it’s going to be. A part of me wishes the baby would already come so we can start figuring out how to throw her in the pile and keep moving 😂

How are you feeling?: so tired all the time. It feels unfair! I wake up often and it’s hard to fall back asleep so that’s part of it. Otherwise though pretty ok, thankfully.

Rave: I got to tell my grandmother about the pregnancy in person this week and she’s so thrilled, it’s the best.

GTKY: I definitely want to know what the plans are in advance! I don’t always need ALL the details, but I definitely want to know what to expect. Especially being so tired these days, I need to make sure I don’t pack my days too much.
