Need help with first name for baby boy

We have already decided to use Edwin as a middle name after my husband’s belated Dad and it’s also his middle name. We have struggled on picking a first name. My husband’s grandfather’s name is James. My grandfather’s name was James, but I was not very close to him. My husband loves the name and we are both super close to his grandpa. The only downfall is that his sister named her baby James Wyatt but he goes by Wyatt. Since the name James is not actually used, would it be weird for us to use it as well? James Edwin flows so well and we love the sentimental value of both names. I also like the name Jack since it is similar, but it’s still not James. What do you think?

Re: Need help with first name for baby boy

  • Would your baby go by James or Edwin or another nickname? If you are close to your sister-in-law, it would be nice of you to have that conversation with her privately to make sure she doesn't have strong feelings about both of your sons having the same first name. If you're not close, it won't matter since the boys seldom will be together anyway.

  • Thank you! He would go by James.
  • Maybe you could choose a name that pays homage without actually being James? Like Jamison or Jamie? Idk if you like those at all haha. Otherwise, could you do Edwin as a first name and James as middle?
