When did you find out your baby’s gender? It’s my first pregnancy, and I’ve gotten mixed reviews so far. I go in for my 14 week appointment next week for testing, so I’m curious if I could potentially find out the gender or not.
At 14 weeks, if you have an ultrasound, an experienced technicien can usually tell you the gender with a pretty good accuracy, but this is usually done at the 20 weeks ultrasound. A lot of people conduct a DNA test to know the gender. Some are available at home or you can ask for it if you do an NIPT screening. Those can be done as soon as 10 weeks.

If you're going in for testing, then yes it's possible you could find out. I think there are actually two commonly used genetic blood tests and one does not test for problems with the sex chromosome and therefore won't tell you. But it seems like the other one is the one more commonly done, and they will ask you if you want to know or not.
I just had the NT scan (ultrasound) done at 13 weeks for the first time and they did not tell me gender based off that, but I am expecting to find out sometime this week based off the NIPT blood test.
Otherwise, my first two I found out at the 20 week anatomy scan. The third from NIPT around 12 weeks, the fourth at birth. My personal recommendation is that if you think you may have strong feelings about gender to wait until the 20 week scan, or even birth, when it feels more like a baby/person rather than if you're still just sick and miserable in 1st tri.
We had the option of finding out with NIPT results that I got back yesterday after a draw on June 15, but unchecked the box to find out sex. We didn’t with our first either — limited the amount of gendered items, comments, and name questions we got and how often do you get to be surprised?
@ccstateofsunshine that's also an interesting experience. We did that with our first. Frustrated a few people for some reason. 🤣🤣 They couldn't understand why we wanted to wait.
@froggerblue and @ccstateofsunshine we are also planning to wait until birth and did with our first, too. @froggerblue we had the same experience. Some people were very annoyed with us for not finding out and seemed to think we were crazy. We really enjoyed the surprise!
@dogmama629 I'm glad we weren't the only one to get that odd reaction from some people. It was also fun to find out at the birth. We were struggling if we wanted a repeat or not this time. Still not 100% sure! 😊
Nothing to add to what others have said but sharing that I found out at my anatomy scan around 20 wks with my first three. Found out at 15 wks with this one since I’m old this time around so NIPT is covered.
We found out the gender of baby boy very early through the clinical sneak peek test. We were offered it at our first OB appointment on 5/16 when I was 8 weeks 2 days. We got the results the next evening on 5/17 and were SHOCKED as we were convinced we’d have another girl. This will be the first boy in my fiancés generation of his immediate siblings to carry on the family name 🥰 so it’s a huge honor. We also had the gender confirmed through NIPT testing completed about 10 weeks. I’m looking forward to our upcoming anatomy scan this week so we can visually have confirmation that baby is a boy. 💙
