CF and SMA carrier tests

Did you ladies have this testing done? If so, what motivated you? My doctor recommended it at first, but knowing it will likely be costing several hundreds of dollars after insurance is making me question what if/how this information would serve us. Insights from either side welcome!

P.S. we are already doing NIPT screening and my blood draw is this Friday.

I had it done before I became pregnant and was very shocked to learn I was a carrier for CF since I’m not considered to be in an ethnicity with high probability of carrying it.  My husband was tested after and fortunately was not a carrier. When I looked into CF I read that when caught early the prognosis was more positive as treatment can begin soon after they are born. If you are in a group that is considered less likely to be a carrier the chances of doctors screening for it when the symptoms emerged/catching it early seemed to be lower. But I agree It’s hard to choose which tests to opt in to. I decided not to do the NIPT blood test as they said they could also check for the same thing with an ultrasound because I was afraid of the cost. My genetic screening was covered by insurance but for my husband we had to pay about $400.
