Low lying placenta/small marginal hematoma at 20 weeks

I just found out a few days ago that my placenta is low lying, and my OB put me on pelvic rest and ordered an MRI. This is my 2nd pregnancy, my first ended in a c section and I’ve been scared about placenta previa/abruption from the beginning of this pregnancy, so finding out news like this has had me absolutely terrified. Has anyone else on here experienced this or currently going through it?

    I had a low lying placenta with my first pregnancy and was on pelvic rest for the second half of it. They did tell me that as long as it’s not covering the cervix, it should move away a bit as the uterus expands, and that’s what happened! A follow-up US at week 33 confirmed that it did. I had no complications and ended up having an easy vaginal birth and healthy baby.

    Any news like this is nerve wracking, I hope the MRI gives you some answers and that everything works out well!

    I just had my AS and it looks like I have a low lying placenta. It was right next to the cervix but I couldn't tell if it was covering it or not. I'm assuming my doc will talk to me about it at my next appointment. 
    I shouldn't have googled that.

    @mitchip Dr. Google will give you worst case scenarios, it’s likely everything is fine! If it was a full or partial placenta previa they wouldn’t wait to talk to you at your next appointment, they’d let you know right away. If placenta is just close to the cervix it’ll move away a bit, and chances are it won’t affect your birth plan if you’re aiming for a vaginal delivery. But it’s good to monitor it though!

    I have to go for a follow up scan in 2 weeks so we'll see there. 

    We don't get ultrasounds in our doctor's offices here so I have to wait until my OB gets the scans and reviews them.

    That makes sense, hopefully they’ll review and get back to you very soon. Low lying placenta is common and usually doesn’t result in complications, so hopefully that’s a little reassuring at least. And I hope everything else re: baby looked good!

    @mitchip I've known a few ladies with low lying placenta and it's been fine. I know it can very much not be fine but that does seem to be quite rare.

    I wouldn’t have been so scared if it weren’t for my hematoma also. I’m not so much worried about birth as I’ll be having a scheduled c-section regardless of if my placenta moves or not, but I am absolutely terrified of hemorrhaging.. Google definitely didn’t help at all. Praying for both of us, I hope the rest of our pregnancies goes smoothly and we have a healthy delivery and baby.

    The hematoma definitely adds a huge level of anxiety. I hope everything goes well and your hematoma takes care of itself naturally!!
