Anyone want to share their birth story or post partum experience m so far?? If you haven’t given birth yet, are you having any contractions or signs it’s impending?
I gave birth on the 6th! My son came 2 weeks early at a whopping 8lbs 11oz and his birth was very long and hard. Long story short I had 2 failed epidurals and pushed for 5 hours only to end up having an emergency c section. Definitely wasn’t the plan, and it was the one thing I really hoped not to have. So thankful he is here though and we get to go home tomorrow if everything is still going well tonight.
Wow, I’m so sorry to hear it didn’t go according to plan 😞 but what a superwoman for enduring those difficulties along the way I pray you have a good c section recovery and are enjoying your sweet baby!!
Oh wow! How do you feel after C-Section so far? And what did they do for pain since epidural didn’t work? I’m breech and might need to have one. Will know this week!
I feel very very sore and my abdomen feels very tight when I stand. It makes me want to hunch over. It’s my first c-section so I hear the first is the hardest and they get easier with each child. Since I labored for 5.5 hours before the c-section I think I’m more sore than women with a planned c-section because they aren’t using all those muscles prior to surgery. They gave me a spinal block in the same catheter for the c-section and it was honestly hands down the BEST. They told me that epidurals won’t work on nerve pain which is what I was experiencing, but the spinal block would. Had I known how good it was I would have just opted for that from the beginning and foregone the epidural and vaginal birth. I know a surgery isn’t ideal, but trust me, there are pros and cons to both vaginal and surgical deliveries.
Oh wow! Would you feel comfortable sharing what emergency led to the c section intervention? At 5.5 hours into labor do you know how far along dilated and effaced you were ?
I was 10cm dilated, not sure effacement. He was too big to clear my pelvic bone and got stuck so they had to get him out. I feel like it took forever for him to progress that far down the birthing canal and then he would sort of come down and go back up. Once he finally got to the pelvic bone area they talked to me about a c-section because my pushing wasn’t producing any results. I’m only 5”2’ so he was fairly large for my stature. I’m sure someone taller would have been just fine!
I started getting contractions right before picking my mom up from the airport two Saturday mornings ago. We even went to a restaurant right after as I thought it was false labor.
I got prodromal labor like 2-3 times before so I wasn’t sure and was only a fingertip dilated the Thursday before. We ended up taking the food home as my contractions were starting to get more intense, I got in a warm bath, ate half a chicken sandwich, and then headed to the hospital around 1:30-2:00pm that day. I told my doula I was getting nauseous with each contraction and that’s when she realized it was the real thing.
I never even knew prodromal labor existed. Everyone always mentions Braxton-Hicks only. 😆 it’s like the real thing, patterned contractions and can last 1-3 days.
One time I got it every 5 minutes for about 45-60 seconds. Even the app said I was in active labor and I think the day before I got it every 2 minutes for 30-40 seconds. They never lasted more than a day…so day of I was like “this must be false labor again” lol. It felt the same but started to increase in intensity.
Unfortunately my doula took 2 hours to arrive and I had already decided to get an epidural, which I was in the process of getting when she arrived. I got the epidural but when they checked right after the medication started to go into my body, I was already 9cm dilated (after the dr broke my water, which had meconium). It does make me wonder if I could have just done it without the epidural as my body was already getting the urge to push right before getting it. I’m feeling a bit upset about not listening to my body. I gave birth like 30 minutes after so was still able to move my feet during it.
I had back labor only, which is intense. Also, I was 2cm when I arrived to the hospital and gave birth like 3 hrs later. It’s crazy how fast things can progress! Being only 2cm at arrival with intense contractions brought back memories (fear) of my prior birth experience. The doctor said it was the fastest vbac they’ve seen.
My first birth was a completely different story. My water broke but I never got any contractions. Hours later in the hospital they gave me Pitocin/medically induced me to help contractions get started. They had to stop it a couple times as the baby wasn’t liking it. Eventually they were able to give me more of the Pitocin and the pain got very intense but I wasn’t really dilating. As such, I requested an epidural. 37 hours later I believe I was still only 4cm dilated and the baby was getting tired so I agreed to just get a c section. I had meconium when my water first broke and felt 37 hours was long enough. Luckily no complications with the baby or myself, but the c section recovery process was pretty painful. I felt so useless. Both c section and vaginal recovery processes are pretty uncomfortable. I just felt a lot more pain with the c section and wasn’t able to get up as fast to attend to my baby.
