Anyone taking low-dose aspirin

Hi moms,

Anybody taking low-dose aspirin since conception? To me it was recommended by my doctor before conception after a missed miscarriage in early pregnancy and discovering a blood clot in the baby’s placenta. They also diagnosed me with Hashimoto’s. The low-dose aspirin was recommended to lower inflammation and any chances of preeclampsia. What is making my mind wonder is was it safe to start from conception. I’m so worried it might have caused a birth defect or anything bad to baby. Everything online mentions not to be knows of effects and that the usual dosage starts after 12 weeks. Has anyone here taken it from conception like me, that can maybe put my mind at ease.

Thank you

Re: Anyone taking low-dose aspirin

  • Yep, I’ve been taking it since before conception for IVF. It was recommended by the REI doctor and is used in many ivf pregnancies.

  • Same here. I was talking 81mg prior to conception during my DE IVF cycle, and now that I’m pregnant my doc has me on 162mg daily as a preeclampsia preventative.
  • Yes, as a preeclampsia preventative since I had hbp with my last.
  • Me! I’m on 162mg daily. I had gestational HTN with baby #1 controlled with nifedipine (oral antihypertensive) and delivered with zero complications. Zero issues with babies #2 and #3 but with this baby they recommended I take aspirin as a pre-E precaution. Not sure I need it but I’ve been dealing with headaches so might as well!

  • I’ve taken it for the past 2 years due to complications from my last pregnancy and the effects it had on my heart. Totally safe and normal to take it during pregnancy, I’ve had zero issues ❤️
  • I just got it recommended yesterday as a pre-eclampsia precaution and an anti-inflammatory. I had great blood pressure with my first up until right around due date then I had hypertension. I also have Hashimoto’s, several miscarriages (prior to my daughter being born), and had a ton of inflammation and swelling at the end which ultimately led to an unplanned c-section.

Hey there, popping over from the Dec 24 group, as I just saw this topic and wanted to put your mind at ease. I have been on it for two pregnancies now. First with my twins because I was high risk because of the twin pregnancy and have a family history of severe pre-eclampsia. This time, my doc is having me start it way earlier in the pregnancy because I'm over 40 now. It's not known for defects. Higher/regular dose NSAIDs like Ibuprofen they tell you not to take because it can reduce swelling too much and cause pregnancy loss (it's there to remove inflammation and swelling and being pregnant requires you to be). But low dose aspirin can stave off too much swelling (pre-eclampsia) as well as have some cardiac benefits which can be the result of pre-eclampsia (stroke). So the benefits far outweigh the risks. Just stay away from the full dose or different NSAIDs. This is a very common treatment that's been proven effective and a great preventative measure with little to no risks.
  • I’ve been on the low dose as well! Diabetic with Grave’s disease over 40 here so also a candidate for preeclampsia. From what I’ve read and been told, totally safe.
