January 2025 Babies

Introductions/GTKY

I'm hoping to get a little more traction going on this board.  I would love to start getting to know you all better.  So if you are comfortable sharing, please tell us about yourself.  For some of the first timers, with my last BMB I lurked for like 4 months before I was comfortable and now have a handful of close friends from the group that have a WhatsApp group message.

I'm April.  I'm 39 so "advanced maternal age" lol.  My husband is 35 and my daughter is 1 (16 months).  We live in Arizona and have 2 cats Elsie and Rory and one dog Murphy.  I don't seem to have the time these days but I love reading, knitting/crocheting, and watching TV/Movies.

  • Thank you all for sharing!  I look forward to getting to know you all more.

@boba07 I'm jealous!  I really wanted to make something for my first but just couldn't find the time.  Luckily my mom also loves to crochet and she made 3 blankets and a stuffed dog for my daughter before she was born and a 4th blanket and some bunny ears for her first easter after she was born.  My sister-in-law also learned recently how to crochet and made her a stuffed animal.  I made a stuffed bear for both of her boys when they were born so she wanted to make something in return.  It was so sweet.

@kmtz89 What made you move to Tanzania?  If you don't mind me asking.  I see that your husband is Tanzanian but did you meet there or in the states and move back with him?  Not that this is the same, but I moved from New Jersey to Arizona by myself and that was a huge adjustment for me so I'm just curious.

@kamays54 wow that’s so special! Crocheting is definitely a labor of love, so nice to have all of that made for your daughter and I’m sure she will cherish those items for a long time 💕

@kamays54 no worries! I actually moved here as a young single person to work on an orphanage initially, ended up meeting my (now) son there and starting the adoption process and met my husband along the way!

  • @kmtz89 that's awesome!
  • Im Nancy and this is my 3rd baby (we have a 3yr old and 21month old). I’ll be 28 this summer and though I’m originally from the PNW, i married a norwegian and we currently live in northern norway. I like to knit and sew though now when pregnant i have no motivation for either. Hoping it’ll come back when this 1st trimester exhaustion ends. We’re hoping to move back to WA sometime early next year. I love norway most of the time but winter is hard and im a baby about it😂 i also miss my family and want my kids to be able to spend more time with their cousins.

@kamays54 thanks for taking initiative to keep the threads going!

@fk18 so cool you’re also in the PNW. Im not there yet i guess but hopefully soon😅 are you closer to seattle or portland? Im from further south, not far from PDX.

@kendyb77 exciting with twins! Maybe you’ve already shared somewhere else but are they same sac or separate?

@boba07 ooo fun to start a new project for the baby!! Maybe i need to start a new project too. Maybe that would bring my motivation back!

@bass04 haha i relate all too well to your new hobbies…taking about nausea and falling asleep everywhere😂 lets hope this gets better soon🤞🏼

@kmtz89 what is life like where you live? Im assuming you dont live in a city with all your chickens?? If you ever feel like sharing pictures of the area that would be cool!

@tpwkalyn i love your cats names😂 please tell me they go outside sometimes so you have to yell for them to come in for all your neighbors to hear😂

@babywiik, we live about half way between Seattle and Tacoma!
  • I'm Katie, 30 year old step mom to our 9 year old boy and over the moon to be 12 weeks pregnant with our rainbow baby. My husband and I went through 2 miscarriages in the last 2 years and finally expecting our baby January 4th. We live in upstate NY and love hiking, anything outdoors really, and spending time as a family. So excited to see this process through and meet our little pot of gold 💛
  • @babywiik yes we’re over the moon about it! From what we can tell, they are di-di, so two sacs, two placentas.

babywiik it's nice to have someone near my time zone! haha. I actually do live in the third largest city of Tanzania, but its normal for houses to exist inside a walled compound so our chickens are safe inside that. I'm not in the city center, but it's only about a 10 min drive away.
Life is mostly slow really. Tanzanian's would say "pole pole" which literally translates to slowly. Everything takes way longer than you could ever expect, but I've come to love it in a way. We live our lives mostly outdoors, its sunny almost every day, day time temperatures range from around 65-70F in cold season to 85-90F in hot season. Stones throw from my house there is multiple little shops where I can find most of my day to day necessities, and for special items we can go to one of a few big supermarkets in town.  It's normal to walk places, and there is lots of places in walking distance. Kids are independent early on, its normal to see a 3 or 4 year old walking to the local shop for a loaf of bread or to the vegetable stand, but also there is definitely the "village mindset" of raising kids. Everyone looks out for each other. I love it really.

Hi all! I'm 38 (do we need an advanced maternal age group?? lol) and 11 weeks pregnant. This will be my first, but it's my third pregnancy after 2 miscarriages in the past 2 years - @katieann430 I'm there with you - and finally things seem to be going ok! I'm due January 15 which is two days after my own birthday and I'll be so annoyed if baby forces me to share (just leave me this one thing! hahaha).

We live in the Denver area with a cat and a dog. When I'm not exhausted, lifting weights is my passion, but these days my activity level is more dog walking. I'm also a big reader and love cute coffee shops.
  • Hi! I’m 40! This is my second with my first being nearly a decade ago… I was a change of life baby too… so much for not being like my mother!
I’m on my second marriage and wasn’t anticipating this one at all. Thinking I was too old to be able to… well life showed me.

I have three fluffy kids and a 9 year old boy.
I love hiking and being outdoors when it’s not 5 million degrees outside.
Looking forward to getting to know you ladies! 🤗
  • Hey everyone! My name is Angelena, and I am 20. My husband is the same age, but works full time as an electrician. This is my first pregnancy, and I am anxious all the time. I struggle with PCOS and miscarriage runs pretty heavily on my Maternal side.  I am originally from northeastern Ohio, but i now live in southwestern Virginia. I am CNA certified, but we just bought a house in a new location and I've yet to find work here, until then I'm working PT at Lowe's.
  • Hi everyone, a little late to the party (both here and being a FTM lol). I have been reading the posts for a few months and decided it's time to participate  :)

I may be the OG of the group at age 43! I'll be 2.5 months away from 44 when baby boy is born. The pregnancy was a surprise, not only because we were not trying, but also after a history of miscarriages. When I was 39, almost 40, I saw an endocrinologist to check my eggs, and I was told I was in the less than 30% of both quality and quantity. I had resigned that I was not going to be a mom in this lifetime once I hit over 40 and had another miscarriage.

Prior to being with my partner and now husband, I focused a lot on my career and moved around a few times, including San Francisco and Toronto, but spent most of my time (10 years) in NYC. My husband is active duty military and we are currently based on O'ahu, Hawai'i, having lived here for nearly 2 years, we are now moving to the Washington, D.C. area next month (I'll be 21-22 weeks). While we are in love with Hawai'i and traveling in this side of the world, we feel very grateful and fortunate we will be closer to family and close friends based on the East Coast and South, especially with new baby on the way.

We love to travel abroad, supporting local restaurants and small businesses, and spending time outdoors including fun hiking trails. We're also looking at getting a dog! My parents, brother and nephews (whom I'm close to) have a rescue pit who is the most kindest, sweetest and loving senior dog, but I've been looking at getting a golden retriever. I think it'll be great for baby boy to grow up with one! I grew up as a youth athlete and worked in the sports and entertainment industry for a long time, so naturally am a sports fan. I love watching tennis, soccer, and can't wait to tune into the Olympics in a few weeks!

Hi and welcome to the newcomers! It’s great to have you all and i look forward to getting to know you all! I love that we have a wide range of ages in the group yet all have one thing in common. Being a mom is so cool and i love that i can connect with moms of all ages and it doesn’t matter if they have one kid or 10 kids, we can all share similar experiences!

Hi everyone, I realized I never posted a GTKY on this thread!

I am Becca (34). I live in Kentucky with my husband (29). Yes, please call me a cougar ;)
We are expecting our first after years of being "fence-sitters" on whether or not to have a kid. I work in research with a background in social services, mental health, and trauma. The first half of 2024 was pretty crazy for me - I left a job I loved, started a new job, lost my heart and soul dog ( @peacefuladventures a rescue pit who was my constant companion and best friend for 14 years - pits are the very very best) , lost a close friend to cancer, and got pregnant all within 5 months. Shew! Life is really life-ing right now :)
My favorite things to do are pretty much anything outside - hiking, camping, traveling, going for walk, swimming.

I have loved getting to know all y'all from these posts! Grateful to have a group to walk through this wild journey with!
  • @bcml my husband is 4 years younger so I'm right there with you.
