January 2025 Babies

Is it normal to have a very small baby?

When I went into my first transvaginal ultrasound the doctor estimated based on previous periods that I should've been 9w4d. When measuring, baby was only 7w1d. Doctor said they don't usually like to see that big of a difference, and my periods were very regular. This is my first pregnancy. That was 2 weeks ago now, and I'm just slightly worried. Should I be? Has this happened to any of y'all now or in previous pregnancies?

  • I went to the OB Thursday and my app said I should be 8 weeks but I measured 6 weeks 4 days. I have my dating ultrasound on Tuesday. I’m wondering if this has happened to anyone before as well. I am sure it’s all going to be okay because I’m still very nauseous and my boobs hurt. I feel like is something was really wrong he would have sent me for testing. Must be alright. Did you hear a heart beat?

  • I think there isn’t too much reason to worry, sometimes we ovulate later than we thought. At my first us/confirmation of pregnancy appt, based on my last period I would have been 10 weeks. I knew this was not accurate since I had been testing for pregnancy and been getting negatives and also my periods were not regular due to breastfeeding my 14 month old still. I estimated I was actually closer to six weeks when looking at the symptoms I tracked on the Flo app and when we were intimate. The us tech was surprised when I told her all of this but sure enough baby measured six weeks four days. So we shall see what the next us tells us.
  • babies this early tend to all be the same size so if you’re measuring smaller but everything else looks ok them most likely you ovulated later than you thought. I read somewhere once(i don’t remember where to check my facts) but babies are the same size until around 7 weeks and then genetics can kick in.
