Haakaa Ladybug vs Elvie Catch vs Boon Trove

Ladies! I am looking for the best milk collector on the market. So far I’ve narrowed it down to these three:

The Haakaa Ladybug
The Elvie Catch
The Boon Trove

What are your experiences with each? I am not looking for a pump/ one with super strong suction. My goal is to have one just to collect my letdown/ anything I leak. I leaked a TON with my first and would go through so many nursing pads - but I didn’t know these products existed at the time!! This time around I want to be proactive and get the best one for myself and not waste any precious milk. Currently 35 weeks, any advice or insight is appreciated 💕

I got the original Haakaa for this very reason. I found it was very helpful. The only downside was once baby started to get longer they could kick it off of me by accident. The ladybug design solves this issue since it would be tucked into your bra or nursing tank.
Some people had issues where it would get to full and un-suction randomly. But it never got that full for me. I don't have any experience with the other brands.

  • These have some differences in their purposes. The Elvie Catch is a milk catcher (even though Elvie uses different terminology on their website), meaning that it doesn't have any suction and just collects milk that leaks. The Boon Trove and Haakaa Ladybug are milk collectors that can be suctioned on to your breast to draw milk out (but can also be put on without suction to just collect milk that leaks) - the Elvie Curve is equivalent to these. I liked the Elvie Curve last time around, but bought the Boon Trove to try this time. I've heard they are very similar, but the Boon Trove is much cheaper. I also have Elvie Catch - I didn't really leak much last time, so they weren't super useful for me, but I will say that they are much thinner if you don't feel the need to have something that suctions.

I highly recommend Karrie Locher on Instagram to help with the differences. She has a highlight called Milk (it's actually a glass of milk emoji) collectors where she goes through some of the options and it might be helpful in making a decision (it was to me)! I will say she really doesn't like the Haakaa Ladybug both because she says it digs in more than others and that it is difficult to suction.
  • thank you so much that’s super helpful! i’ll check out her instagram
  • I used the haakaa ladybug with my second and loved it so much I bought a second one. I like that it can catch letdown or be used with suction and that it’s fairly discreet, tucked right into my bra or nursing tank. I was able to store lots of “bonus milk” collected with them. Most often I used it on the opposite breast while nursing, but sometimes I’d just wear both around the house and on long drives.

I read recently that the traditional haakaa pump can be used in the shower, where the ladybugs required a bit of support for me, so it wasn’t something I even thought to try. It was always a race to get a towel and bra with pads for the ladies after a relaxing hot shower.
  • I used the Haakaa Ladybug and loved it! It was great for catching letdown and pretty discreet. It worked well for me, especially since it fits into a bra. I haven't tried the others, but the Ladybug was definitely a game-changer for me.
