1st Trimester

Bad visit or miscarriage?

A couple of days ago I started experiencing bleeding and cramping. I got so freaked out I went to our triage late night/early morning. The whole visit just seemed so unorganized and not taken seriously. They didn’t seem too concerned with the amount of bleeding but did mention it was more than they would like to see. Ultrasound from the resident “I am not even seeing a gestational sac but I see some cysts” My cervix was closed and I was then told that the next few days would be similar to a heavy period. Labs were drawn and I am supposed to go back Monday to get hcg checked again. My bleeding has decreased significantly with little to no spotting now and the cramping stopped fairly quickly and is completely gone. I am still having all of my same symptoms of pregnancy I was having before as well. Any thoughts?

Re: Bad visit or miscarriage?

  • You didn’t say how far along you are? Unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to wait for that second set of labs.

  • if going based off of last menstrual I would be right at 7 weeks. but I have also read a lot about that not always being totally accurate? I am just so confused and trying to stay calm until my appointment
  • If it was an abdominal ultrasound it’s possible they may not have been able to see much just because things are so small at that point in pregnancy.

You might have better luck and care if you can connect with an OBGYN or midwife practice rather than the triage.

I hope it all turns out well for you ❤️
  • Yeah, the Emergency Room/Department is not the best place for miscarriage/OB information.  What was your HCG number?  The best at your stage is to see what the number is 48 hours later and if it's doubling or not.
