New to The Bump

Entering the unknown!

Hello everyone! I’m 6 weeks (and 2 days) pregnant. Been a long process getting to this point ultimately ending up with having IVF.

I tested positive back at the start of May with a blood test and I have an early pregnancy scan tomorrow (to check for ectopic etc).

I have very few symptoms really limited to some womb twinges, tiredness and painful boobs in the cold.

It’s really a baffling time for me as have no-one close to me who has been pregnant or is currently pregnant. I’m totally panicking about the scan and whether it’s ectopic potentially for no valid reason and just generally nervous by the whole thing!

Anyone else been there?

Re: Entering the unknown!

  • I think it's totally normal to be nervous about the first scan. I don't have any fertility issues and I'm low risk for everything, but I was still super nervous about the scan, because ectopic and empty sacs can happen to anyone regardless of circumstance. I also have only ever had mild symptoms so I was convinced that meant I had an empty sac since I wouldn't have enough hormones to give me stronger symptoms.
Turns out I was just paranoid, everything was fine, and it was actually really exciting seeing the tiny little embryo waving it's limbs and getting to see an early heartbeat :)
Hope everything goes well for you at your scan.

  • Thanks @lizzy217 that's put my mind a bit more at ease although hadn't quite realised how common empty sacs were and now paranoid I'd have this! Oh gosh.... this is so scary. Let's just keep fingers crossed for tomorrow!
  • Sorry I didn't want to give you another thing to worry about! :s
Fingers crossed, hope all goes well!
  • @lizzzy217 All went well :) Heartbeat and everything! Can relax now!
