January 2025 Babies

Let's talk symptoms!

I think one of the hardest things about these early days is that we are largely suffering through our symptoms alone, because we haven't told a lot of people yet. So, what symptoms are you having so far?

I'm 6w2d and I've been having nausea, heartburn, tender breasts, and, a new one for me, hot flashes!

Re: Let's talk symptoms!

  • Thanks for starting this Mandy! I agree it’s hard at the moment because so few people know. This is my first time and it does feel lonely. For me it’s the mental challenge of the worry and stress of it all. Feels like the minutes, hours and days are dragging by. I had lots of cramping in the beginning and exhaustion. Now at 6 weeks and 1 day, it’s the nausea and emotional state. I’m just so grateful to be able to do this but the nausea is intense all day long, very sore boobs, and bloating as well. Everyone is so unique in their experience. Hopefully more people share!

  • Hi all! So happy someone started a chat like this. I am earlier along than the two of you at 4 weeks 2 days. I found out sooo early at 3 weeks 2 days. This is my first and the mental challenge is the toughest aspect so far, and it’s exactly as said, the minutes, hours and days are dragging. Being this early my main symptoms are fatigue and bloating/feeling gassy but I’m sure the nausea will be making its grand entrance very soon. Just hoping to find a way to worry less and be excited and happy in the long, long moments (lol).

I’m sitting here thinking I should have more symptoms, lol.
I’m 6+3 today and definitely have sore breasts and I’m so tired.  But I think those are also side effects of the progesterone I’m taking so hard to say if it’s because of that or the pregnancy.  I had cramping in weeks 4 and 5 but that has stopped.  I’m so nervous for our ultrasound this week and keep thinking if I was feeling nauseous maybe I would feel more confident everything is as it should be.
  • I am similar to you - 6 weeks and 2 days and sometimes find myself worrying because I’m not nauseous or have more intense symptoms! So far very tired and also had cramping / bloating in weeks 4-5. I have the oura ring and my resting heart rate has been consistently higher (and spikes more quickly while working out). Eager for first appt at 8 weeks!
  • I feel like nausea is such a double (triple?) edged sword. I'll feel awful, but that makes me more assured that I'm actually pregnant. But, then, if I have a good day the next day without nausea I start to panic and think something is wrong. You just can't win. Lol.

Hi Ladies! Same here- nausea, heartburn, tired, bloated I look like 5 months pregnant!! I’m 6 weeks 4 days going for my ultrasound tomorrow. I’m nervous because I had a miscarriage last year so I’m cautiously optimistic. Good luck to us all.
  • I’m 6 weeks 4 days and going in for my ultrasound tomorrow too! Good luck to you. I was so sick on Monday I couldn’t leave bed and was wondering how I was going to make it through the next however many weeks feeling like I did. Luckily I think it was just the flu. But now I’m wondering where the nauseous is. Can’t win!
  • I’ve been having intense cramps. I’ve been pregnant seven times (including this one) but went full term 4 times. So maybe it’s because my uterus is like, “I know the drill. Stretchhhhh”. But I have cramping on one side now. Like it started all over but now it’s just been the right side for three days. And now I’m scared I have an ectopic. It’d be too early for an ultrasound yet since I’m only like 4w2d. So I’m not sure.
  • im glad you posted this as I am one day farther than you and was literally having the same fears this morning. Googling symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy made me feel better (it was bleeding/bad cramping and shoulder pain), and from the minimal research I did it said nothing about pain on one side (don’t want to go down the google rabbit hole!). I’ve just been having a more sharp pain (mild) on the right when I cough or sneeze not so much the cramping on the right. My cramping has been pretty mild and feels just like period cramps sporadically. Hope the symptoms of one give you some comfort like it did for me!
  • I'm ~6 weeks 6 days.  I have had some nausea, a little heartburn, and so much fatigue.  But my daughter just started daycare (this is her 3rd week) and she caught a nasty bug last week which my husband and I both got.  So it's hard to tell sometimes what is from the sickness and what is from the pregnancy.

For the nausea, what worked for me last time was the preggie pops and also eating small amounts of dry cereal or snacks like crackers or cheezits, etc throughout the day.  I know the preggie pops don't always work for everyone and they only seem to help as you are actively sucking on them.  Most of the time once it was done the nausea came back for me.  Another thing that I only tried once was B6 vitamins. Towards the end of the first trimester with my first, I had to fly out of state for a wedding.  The plane ride there was so awful.  When we got to the hotel I googled and found that B6 should help.  I took some before the flight home and there was still a little nausea but no where near what I felt before.  I'm not sure how much it would help just regular nausea though.  I haven't tried any remedies this time yet.
  • Hi! I am only 4 weeks and a day. This is my first, and I’m 35 years old (few months away from 36) and my boyfriend and I got pregnant without really trying. I have definitely been feeling alone. It doesn’t help that he was away this whole week when I just found out.

Another scary thing is everyone who I talk to keeps mentioning the risk of or potential of chemical pregnancies which furthers my anxiety. My boyfriend is a positive person, so luckily his viewpoint outweighs theirs. It still is pretty tough to have that in the back of my head and I’m not sure why people would think that’s something you would want to know… unless something happens.

Anyways… my symptoms are cramping for a whole week at this point (that was the symptom that clued me in to test). I have also been very tired, hungry for random things and no desire in others (want all the sweets or very spicy/salty) but nothing just plain old savory lol. My moods have also been really intense and shifting fairly rapidly - lots of tears then joy the next minute.

I am nervous but excited! I know it’s early on, but I get my second blood test to measure my hcg levels today!
  • It’s so helpful to see all the posts! Keep them coming! Symptoms are all so personal and I appreciate reading some that are familiar to what I am experiencing. It’s also great to get an update if you feel comfortable!

I had an ultrasound yesterday at 6 weeks and 2 days and we got to see (and hear!) the heartbeat which was pretty surreal. My cramping had previously calmed down which helped me mentally feel more confident but post ultrasound the cramps came roaring back. My doctor reassured me that sometimes the ultrasound wand can cause some irritation and that it should resolve. Luckily it did which has been a relief. I can handle just about any symptom but cramping stresses me.

One thing I wanted to share, the struggle for me is I live from moment to moment and only find temporary relief. If I could just get a positive test, if my numbers could just double, if the first ultrasound could just show a heartbeat…etc. Once I hit one of those milestones, there is relief but it’s so fleeting! Within hours I’m hyper focused and worried about the next thing. It’s a mental marathon.

This week my focus is taking care of myself, laughing and tapping into things I enjoy, getting outside and moving my body! We got this!
  • @jojosesame So exciting you got to hear the heartbeat! There's nothing like it. I wish I didn't have to wait until 8 weeks for mine!

  • Probably the oldest here ! Haha … 41! And it only took two months. We were so discouraged by the statistics. Less than a 5% chance per cycle after 40. But we had no trouble. So excited ! I have one other , he is about to be 9. So far I do not have many symptoms. Extreme fatigue and sore breasts. Today they are more sore than that have been. That’s really it. Nice to be here with all of you. And yes… it’s soooo difficult to have this secret !
  • I am 6 weeks, and I just had horrible gas pains, nausea/vomitting and bloating, came out of the blue and and came on strong. I seriously thought I was having a miscarriage before I threw up.  Im fine now, but will definitely be reducing my gassy food intake in favor of less gassy options, bye bye dairy.

Prior to this i only had some light cramping.
  • I totally understand Mandy, the wait feels so long! We are pregnant through IVF which is why our fertility clinic performed the ultrasound otherwise I’d be waiting until my 9 week OB appointment! Hang in there!
  • You are in good company! I am 42 years old! Not exactly thrilled to be “the oldest” but very very grateful to be in the group. I will have our little guy while I’m still 42 but just barely!
  • Hi! I’m 5w3d, just started feeling symptoms of fatigue. At the end of last week my sense of smell got stronger and (according to my husband) my BO got worse lol
  • Hi! Very ready for my first appt! This platform is so comforting hearing everyone. My breasts have been the most obvious symptom, so swollen and bulging out of my bra! My bowel movements have been more regular than ever, not sure if that’s a symptom.. Light cramping every once in a while.. had a long day of nausea the other day but none since.. Hi from California!
  • mama it is HARD.
I am 5w2d and my breasts are rocks. They hurt so badly. I am cramping so badly (baby is fine I got checked), I am absolutely exhausted and I have morning sickness that also turns into all day sickness.

On top of this…my car just got totalled in a hit and run. My partner and I were about to look into a second car but now we don’t even have one and I already feel like a bad Mom….symptoms and life making early pregnancy really hard for me. And I just want to be happy that the baby is there and growing becuase I’ve experienced pregnancy loss.

its a challenge…this app helps and so does talking to my best friend who’s due soon.

That is horrible luck and timing. You are not a bad Mom!! Your thoughtfulness and support seeking speak to your strengths.

Am I the only one with mood swings? 4w6d and I’ve been getting wayyyh more upset about silly things than I need to. I’ve also had some mild cramping here and there and slight nausea when I’m hungry. Not that bad at all yet. I’m buckling up.
  • I am also dealing with nausea that seems to go throughout the whole day. I am left feeling like I can’t do anything but lay on the couch because every time I think of moving I feel like I could be sick. It is awful  :s
  • Ugh. New(ish) symptom! In the last few days I have developed some seriously painful acne. I usually have a small breakout a couple days before my period,  so I guess with the raging pregnancy hormones it was to be expected. Still I haven't broke out this badly and painfully for a long time. I certainly don't remember it in my other pregnancies.  Anyone else?

  • This is my second pregnancy, I’m 5 weeks today. I’m having a little bleeding and I’m pretty scared about it…it seems a little more than “light spotting” and too late for implantation bleeding 😫😩
  • I’m 5 weeks today. Tired for sure, insomnia, some hot flashes, breast tenderness, and today is the first day with waves of nausea and dizziness. I have the opposite of cravings right now and nothing sounds or tastes good; everything is either too salty or too sweet, or just bland.

  • @MandyBeeSLP I took hormones for two months TTC and I noticed I had deep acne that I couldn't pop and it was painful.  Luckily it was only one at a time and it seems to have passed.  Sorry that you are going through that.

@Mamazon2014 It doesn't happen that often but there are times when even thinking about food makes me nauseous so I feel you on the nothing sounds good.

Not a new symptom but forgot to mention it before.  Pregnancy brain.  My friend at work knows I'm pregnant and I asked her the other day if I was this stupid this early on with my last pregnancy. lol.  I swear I catch myself doing some really dumb things lately.
  • About 5w2d with first baby and no real noticeable symptoms yet, maybe a little fatigue...trying not to fall into the trap of thinking that no symptoms means baby isn't doing okay, but I know that that isn't likely the case. Regardless, it will be amazing and reassuring to see/hear baby at first ultrasound in a couple weeks.

@kendyb77 - I find myself falling into that same thinking trap! 5w1d and only very slight physical symptoms at this point.

I know what you mean.. life has been throwing me a few punches too lately and I’m not sure if it’s the hormones that I’m taking everything that much harder or what. I pray you all get through whatever ebbs and flows life is sending your way. And may this journey make your delivery that much more beautiful.

I’m 5w4d and just found out yesterday (🥳). Looking back, so far the symptoms I’m noticing are sore boobs, a LOT of gas/burping, fatigue, and the last couple of days my BO has been…..different. Also, has anyone experienced some sharp cramps within the vagina as well? They don’t happen often, but when they do, it’s like someone’s stabbing me with a tiny fork 🙃
  • Do you have any updates to share? I've been experiencing some light bleeding/spotting for the last 24 hours and am reading that it's common but it's difficult to stay calm. I don't see my doc for another 3 days which feels like an eternity right now.

Meant to post above message as a reply to this, but new here and figuring out the quote feature.

I’ve had cramping on and off without bleeding, and all my other symptoms are minimal, so I really relate to this.

This is my first pregnancy and both my mom and sister have had at least 1 miscarriage so I worry I will also. I don’t have my first OB appointment for another week and a half 😭.

I think the best we can do is try and stay present and not let our mind drift to the future (SO HARD when pregnant).

I’m  exhausted. I’ve heard week 9 is the worst for that so fits right for me. But I literally woke up this morning and wanted to cry I was still so tired after a full nights sleep. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt so tired

I’m 7 weeks tomorrow, and it seems like my symptoms continue to be quite mild, some even improving (I.e. constipation, mood swings). I’m trying not to worry too much about this. Anyone else feel their symptoms are pretty minimal?
  • @fk18 same here! I’m also 7 weeks tomorrow and was just telling my husband that I was feeling the same way. I feel maybe a bit more tired, but otherwise feel completely normal. HOWEVER, I keep reminding myself that I do have the symptoms of a missed period and positive pregnancy test(s). Definitely looking forward to that first appointment, and trying to stay relaxed and be thankful for feeling good in the meantime.

    Hi mamas!
7 wks here. I’ve been constipated and nauseated for the last two weeks! And lightheaded from time to time. It has been terrible. I remember all day nausea during my first pregnancy and some constipation but this time I think it’s worse (maybe bc I’m older?). Went to urgent care a couple days ago bc I couldn’t take the constipation anymore and was starting to get scared it won’t resolve on its own even though I’m taking walks and eating fiber (though eating is tough bc of the nausea). Now I’m taking Miralax and already starting to feel better. Hoping to feel more “normal” soon!
