Protein powder?

I’m confused about whether protein powder is safe during pregnancy or not. My doc said it’s just not well studied. Anyone have protein powder during pregnancy? Is it safe? If so, which kind? Thank you!

Re: Protein powder?

  • I'm curious about this as well.  I've been making one for myself about once a week because I've been craving mostly carb heavy foods.  I'm using the Lady Boss Lean, but I add other flavors because it doesn't taste the best on its own and so far no problems.

  • I recently bought the Baby Booster prenatal protein powder, so I've only been using it for about a week or so. It tastes pretty good, and makes a lot of claims about being safe during pregnancy - no hormones, low sugar, no caffeine, OBGYN recommended, NSF certified, etc. And it contains other good pregnancy things like DHA and folate.
The marketing claims are at least reassuring to me, but my plan is still to use it in moderation, maybe every other day or so, just in case. Their website says you should have 2-3 protein shakes a day and that definitely seems extreme to me, I'd rather get most of my nutrition from my food.
  • I've been using's Ritual's prenatal protein powder. They're very transparent with their ingredients and I like that they use clean, plant-based protein. https://amzn.to/3Qkp1FY
