What are yall eating??

I have not been able to eat anything other than crackers this week. The thought of anything else makes me sick :( But then not eating makes me feel more sick...ugh. I try soup and bread, but even that sometimes is too much.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: What are yall eating??

  • I’ve been eating a lot of toast, and sometimes I can do apples and pb as well. Toast with avocado might be a helpful way to get some healthy fats in there?

I also have been going for plain yogurt and fresh berries because the coldness of the yogurt has been pretty nice.

  • Everyone keeps telling me to eat eggs. But the idea of seeing the raw egg makes me sick.
I've been relying on smoothies in the mornings and perogies in the evenings.
  • Toast with avocado or toast with ricotta has been a real go to for me. Sometimes I can stomach scrambled eggs if someone else makes them, but not often.
  • I decided to try some cream of broccoli soup last night… big mistake. I guess I’ll have to stick to crackers, applesauce and French fries for now. I feel so bad not eating healthy or enough but I just can’t do it. When will this madness end?! 😞
  • Seems like anything I eat that feels ok once, doesn’t the next time. I ate a plum one day and was so happy so I decided to eat another one a few days later…. Nope couldn’t finish it. It’s been like that with several things.
  • My morning sickness isn't too bad at the moment it's effecting me most in the morning. So breakfast has been exclusively marmite on toast, at least it's got lots of folic acid in it. The rest of the day I've been able to eat ok. Like in my previous pregnancies I've got a strong aversion to sweet foods,  not necessarily a bad thing but I was feeling so nauseous the other day when everyone else was eating icecream.  :s
  • This week the only thing that has felt doable is rice cereal. I've been able to sneak fruit and yogurt in occasionally but really sticking to the bland options.
  • Toast was working for me this week so I tried adding some cheese and that worked. So grilled cheese is my new best friend.
  • No real nausea or food aversions so far so I’ve been eating ALL the things. Homemade lamb gyros for dinner tonight, grilled chicken salad for lunch, and yesterday it was leftover spaghetti and salad for lunch and a bean and cheese burrito with salad for dinner. Yum. I’ve been craving all things salty and spicy. Though I got a pint of Ben and Jerry’s Tonight Dough and I have big plans to make a dent in that by the end of the week.

  • I used to love spicy food and all of a sudden it’s making mouth feel like fire and I can’t even eat franks red hot never mind anything hotter.

I am unable to drink straight water now. It immediately makes me vomit. I can only keep down ginger ale it seems? At least they make zero sugar now (I can dilute it with water at least)

I seem to either want to eat all the things one day and nothing the next. Very strange feelings.
  • I too cannot drink water… just the thought of it makes me gag. How freakin weird! I’ve been doing diet ginger ale as well and started incorporating Ensure since I’m not able to eat much either.
  • Good call on the ensure!
  • Saw my doctor today and she prescribed me Bonjesta for the nausea. I’m waiting on insurance approval then for it to be mailed. Oh I hope this works and gets here REALLY soon!
  • Nothing great! At first I just wanted fruit and veggies. Now most days nothing sounds good :/ I’ve been on a mostly toast, cereal, mashed potato diet. Cottage cheese and fruit in the morning when I can tolerate it. Been trying to add in veggies when I feel up for it. These food aversions are rough!
  • I cannot drink cows milk this time around!  As for what I’m eating it’s all crap foods so I’m no help here right now. I am fortunate to not have a ton of illness with this one just yet but with my DD I was sicker than anything and I lived on bone broth with her. It helped me get nutrients and it was something I could sip on. A box of Nilla Wafers lived in my nightstand at that time also. I referred to the “BRAT diet” when I had to and hoped that I could keep the bone broth down for any possible good stuff. I’m sorry I don’t have current help but hopefully yall find relief soon!!
  • I just want bland stuff. I usually love spices and strong flavors but I just can't do it. The only strong flavor I can do is citrus and sour fruits, since it hides the awful taste I have in my mouth all the time, so I'm eating oranges and green apples constantly (I really just want to eat starburst, but that's probably not the best idea, ha).

My two biggest challenges: 1. I need to eat first thing in the morning, otherwise they nausea becomes overpowering. I'm not usually a breakfast eater, so I force myself to eat some saltine crackers. 2. I'm a huge coffee drinker, but coffee tastes awful to me when pregnant! Trying to switch to tea but it just doesn't hit the spot. Coffee with steamed milk works sort of, but it's more work (I mostly drink black coffee).

  • I tried bonjesta recently but it made me sooo tired the next day (I took it before bed because it can make you drowsy). It was hard doing things the next day. Just be prepared in case that happens to you! I don’t think I can take it unfortunately anymore.
  • My nausea has been pretty mild however I was surprised how much my food aversions have been! I pretty much stick to yogurt or toast/bagel in the morning, some fruit and crackers in the day and eat pasta and bread at night. I can’t look at chicken 😅 I feel guilty I should be getting more nutrients in my diet but the aversions have been rough!
  • Sending you all love and the strength the persevere the nausea. Magically so far I am okay at 8w. I’m waiting for mine to hit. I do feel nauseous when I’m hungry, but I can still eat thankfully. Xoxox
  • I also have to force myself to eat an arrowroot cookie or two first thing in the morning so I keep them in my nightstand and as soon as I'm awake I have to pop one in my mouth or I'm nauseous when I stand up.

I had to leave work yesterday because we had a customer event and they made popcorn in the popcorn machine and I could not stop throwing up from the smell.

I'm 8w1d and my nausea has been worse than ever. Perogies are still my safe food - the baby has earned the nickname 'our little perogy' (we're Ukrainian heritage so we love it).
  • Are anybody else's taste buds super sensitive?
Some of my usual favourite snacks seem to be really intensely flavoured to me in the past week or so.
ie. just ate a dill pickle chip and my tongue was like: woah!! same thing when I ate a sour cherry blaster, which I usually love. It was like too much.

Love this!!! I may have to call mine tater tot 😂
  • The one thing that seems to be the best for me is hash browns!! Something about greasy potatoes is soothing my morning sickness
  • tater tot is adorable!!

I tried eating those in the air fryer and they didn’t stay down.
  • So far this has definitely been my easiest pregnancy nausea wise. I'm not going to count my chickens yet though as with DS1 the morning sickness was worst between 12 and 18 weeks.

Breakfast is still exclusively marmite on toast but the rest of the day I'm mainly ok. I'm still not feeling anything sweet and craving all thr salty crunchy things.
  • @mitchip yes to the sensitivity thing! Foods don’t smell or taste like they usually do. I took a single sip of caffeine free cola and it tasted like cinnamon. I made pasta and tried putting marinara on it and it smelled like apple sauce to me. My husband assured me that it didn’t, but I still ate my pasta plain since apple ravioli sounded terrible.
  • @mamahen521 I used to love Diet Coke but I can’t drink it anymore because it tasted awful to me. That’s so funny

question for all the second+ time moms: are you eating sandwiches? Most of my friends are telling me I can ignore the “no sausage, ham” rule. We’re German and Ukrainian backgrounds and usually eat a lot of sausage and salami etc. also I didn’t eat a lot of subway before but everyday I have been thinking about a subway sandwich. lol.
  • @mitchip I think it depends what your comfortable with. In the UK we're advised only not to eat cured meats and pate. Cold sliced ham, turkey, chicken, etc. are all considered to be fine.

There are lots of Polish people who live in my area so we get a lot of their hams and saussages. I've been eating them and just avoiding the cured meats if uncooked. The only thing I definitely won't have is the pate because is also has too much vitamin A, so there are two reasons not to have it. In the meantime I can dream about having a banh mi sandwich 😋.

We've had French style cassoulet for dinner tonight with Polish sokolow and chorizo in it for dinner tonight.

That said we have different rules on food production in the UK and EU. Though the main risk from the ham etc. is listeria, which if you get when you're pregnant is very bad but it's incredibly rare. I'd actually be more concerned about eating pre cut melon as there were two outbreaks of listeria from that when I was pregnant before, also beansprouts and sprouted lentils/chickpeas. Bagged salad is a bit iffy too, it's best eaten in the first couple of days after purchasing.

I should add I'm a teacher of Food Preparation and Nutrition. So I teach this stuff, I don't just know it all for no reason. 🤪
  • I was doing really well having smoothies every breakfast and a big lunch healthy meals. But this week I can’t stand the sight of smoothies and my nausea/food aversion has gotten a lot worse.

There has been times all I could have were crackers, then I upgraded to making a little snack plates with crackers, hummus, cheese and grapes. Now sandwiches and wraps seem to be sitting well. There is this pink stork nausea tea and ginger chews that can help a bit as well.

My appetite is starting to come back a little. I'm still having issues with meat though. I'm starting to drink some protein shakes that are low carb (i'm getting plenty of carbs since that's most of my safe food - still perogies and now bagels)
I'm not as grossed out by fruits anymore, and veggie platters have been getting better too.  I was drinking smoothies and now I don't want to look at one either.

I did stop taking the anti-nausea meds because I honestly felt like garbage on them. At least when I was nauseated throwing up would give me a little relief.

Edit to add (I always think of things after I post): What are you drinking??? I still can't drink straight water. Sparkling spring water seems to be okay (but expensive) and I'm so sick of watered down juice and ginger ale!
  • Smoothies and popsicles!

    Anything light and tart!
  • Really into shaved ice lol super cold; flavorless, delicious
  • I'm eating like a toddler. Beige food. Currently heating up some hash brown patties that I'll eat plain. It's not ideal but first tri is survival mode, if I try to eat "healthy" it'll just come back up. Can't win!

  • I’m ridiculously picky right now. I can only eat turkey cheddar sandwiches from Panera. (Yes, I warm the meat). I also eat blackberries. Anything else, I just can’t eat it. I don’t get nausea, but I’m picky like a toddler.
  • For the drinking part, I started struggling with filtered tap water and tried some different bottled waters and that made a difference for me. For whatever reason, smartwater brand water is a specific craving these days.

I've been drinking fennel tea in the evening. I find it helpful when my digestion is being really sluggish in the evenings. I've also got some rooibos chai that I've been enjoying.
  • Popping in again to say I am now officially STARVING. It’s almost 11am here and I’ve had exactly 3 breakfasts: cottage cheese w fruit, yogurt with craisins, and a sausage, egg, and cheese hot pocket. Let the feedings commence!
I hope all your tummies are doing well/getting better but most of all: staying fed.
