Trying to Get Pregnant

miscarriage and ovulation

hey mamas and future mamas!

i recently got a positive pregnancy test on april 2nd, started bleeding a light period on the 3rd, got hcg checked and it was only 15. four days later it was a 27 then 2 days later a 29. today i went and the levels were a 22. clearly a non viable pregnancy. er doc said miscarriage or chemical pregnancy because i had a period on march 4th. it was way early. i got curious today after i left the er because i was cramping and small amount of thick discharge. peed on an ovulation stick and it was dark blue, like no misreading that. question is, how is it possible im ovulating if i am or miscarried less than 2 weeks ago. and why did my levels rise just a tad after the miscarriage? any opinions or same stories?

A chemical pregnancy is such an early miscarriage, occurring around the same time as a period normally would, and often close to a normal period in feeling, that they don't disrupt the cycle as much as a clinical miscarriage. I ovulated at my normal time, about two weeks after my chemical pregnancies.

ETA: ovulation based on temp shift. I've never used an ovulation stick, nor have I tracked my hcg levels. I have seen Dr Google recommend to have your dr follow your hcg to 0 before trying again. But my drs didn't even follow up with me after my clinical m/c (yay covid era)

  • @samanthack08 I'm sorry for your loss. I've heard that hcg can interfere with O sticks, and turn them positive.  Also, with all of my MCs that were like 5 weeks or earlier, if I counted the first day of bleeding as CD 1, I essentially ovulated and went back to a somewhat regular cycle from there.

Also, definitely make sure you track HCG down to 0.  OR sit out a cycle or two.  I can't tell you the number of times people come back and say "It's been 4-5 weeks since my MC and my PG tests are turning positive and I had sex two weeks ago.  What is going on?"  And that's a place NO one wants to be, because at that point, you have to go get HCG beta tests and see if the number is rising or lowering to see if the HCG in your body is from the first MC, or if you're PG again, or if you're having a second MC.  Just do yourself, and everyone else, a favor and sit out until after your next cycle!

  • im thinking it was a chemical pregnancy because if i didnt randomly pee on the stick that night i would never have known any of the stuff going on. i would have went on assuming normal period and so forth. this is my first time using an ovulation stick so no idea what to think of it. my dr said because my level are so low that she doesnt need a follow up and starting to try again was ok. she said if i want my hcg level drawn again in a month to check if its back to zero but since were still trying it might give me more anxiety if its higher. i dont think ill ask until ive gone at LEAST a week with a missed period, pee on a stick then ask for hcg
