When to see GP

Hi December Mum’s,

My period is due in 3 days. I’ve done a pregnancy test everyday for the last 3 days which started as a faint line and is getting darker and darker so I’m pretty sure I’m pregnant which would mean my due date is 10th December.

Is it too soon to see a GP next week, a day before I would be 5 weeks pregnant?

Thanks!

Re: When to see GP

  • Depends in which country you live as recommendations and medical practices can differ a bit. Here, my first doctor appointment is at 8 weeks. Some other country they see you at 6 weeks. Just call your GP's office and ask. They'll help you with scheduling your appointment.

  • Thanks for your reply, appreciate you responding. I am in Australia, I’ve since learned that a lot of women attend an appointment even before 6 weeks here.
  • I lived in AU for my first pregnancy and saw my doc as soon as I got a positive. They did repeat hcg draws to make sure it was rising appropriately, checked my progesterone and did a full blood workup where they found my thyroid levels had dropped (not uncommon in pregnancy). Honestly I'd book in now :)
  • This is going to vary depending on provider. I would go ahead and call and if they want you in at a later date then they can go ahead and schedule for a later time.

My first appointments were usually scheduled for around 9wks.
