Exclusively Pumping

Just wondering if anyone has previously or plans to exclusively pump? I did with my 1st for a few months, but was so uneducated that I didn't do what I needed to build/keep my supply. I wanna do it this time for longer, but with my 5yo running around I'm hesitant to be attached to a pump every 3 hours 'round the clock. Considering a hands-free pump as well.

Re: Exclusively Pumping

  • I did with my first! If you’re on facebook, the group Exclusively Pumping Mamas is a great resource for this and where I got most of my help in order to be successful!

  • @debbiemoo thank you! I sent my join request today! Also got my pump selection through insurance, and they have one that can plug into wall or use a USB with a portable charger! So seriously considering that one!

I exclusively pumped with my first because he didn’t latch. I stuck with the rented hospital grade electric pump for at least two weeks until I switched to a hand pump. I didn’t event bother with the electric pump my insurance covered. I felt my nipples were left sore and blistered. I found the most success using the Mendela hand pump which gave me a lot of control and mobile flexibility. It helped get any clogs out too. It was also very easy to transport and pump on the go. I did eventually also get a hands free breast pump which was convenient for me sometimes. I still preferred the manual hand pump despite having to pump one breast at a time.
  • @saf22 I need to add a manual pump to my list. I had one with my first, and used it to get my colostrum out and such, but never paid it much attention after that, maybe I'll give it a better chance this time, especially if on the go!
