When did you/are you buying stroller?

I am almost 32 weeks and got one today (mostly because I had a little hospital scare Friday) and freaked out that we didn't have anything besides the carseat. Is this too early, in your opinion? Thanks.

Re: When did you/are you buying stroller?

  • I don't think there is a standard for too early. If you had a scare, then you have reason to be cautious. I am dying to buy ALL THE THINGS but I have no reason to think he is coming early and I am waiting until after my baby shower for most things so I don't end up with doubles. I've bought some clothes and books but that's it. I think it's all about your situation.

  • I say buy the necessities now, so you can come home to the basics, and then keep getting more over time. So getting a stroller now, is a good idea. I'm 30+2, I'm working on purchasing mine by at least 37 weeks so I can be prepared... at least the stroller base and the carseat and adapters. But don't panic, you aren't alone in not knowing when is the "right" time to get some items. Everyone goes at a different pace. @jenbstevens is right. It's all about YOUR situation.

  • I ended up with my travel system at like 18 weeks or something, the one I wanted was on sale the weekend I registered so we went ahead and got it. We were planning on buying all the large stuff ourselves anyway so we didn't feel the need to wait until the shower.

I registered for my stroller/travel system and my MIL purchased it right away. I won't be receiving it until my baby shower in a couple weeks. I will be 31 weeks at the time of my shower. I say it's better to be safe and it's never too early to get essentials like that. You will need them no matter what.

ETA - unless you intend on purchasing the major items your self I say it's never to early otherwise it's understandable to wait for your shower to make sure you don't get duplicates.
  • I would definitely wait until after your shower but then get whatever you still need/want. It's so hard though, as soon as I got pregnant I was ready to buy everything!
  • While I was pregnant with DS we got a travel system and pack n play when I was around 12 weeks. We knew we'd need them, the colors were neutral and could always be reused, we weren't expecting a shower or any help with purchases, and they were on sale for a price that was too good to pass up, plus we happened to have the money at the time. It just all worked out and we knew then that we had a car seat and a place for baby to sleep if worse came to worse.

This time we need a second car seat but are waiting until we can take advantage of registry completion discounts. We aren't worried about not getting it in time since my mom has one we can use to get by if need be.
  • Thanks everyone, it's nice and reassuring to hear that it depends on my situation. I know that, but always nice to hear :) Also, we are not having a shower so that I guess factored into the stroller splurge today.

We're waiting until after our showers this month to buy things we have on the registries, and not a moment later! I like to be prepared as soon as possible, especially when they could really come any day.
We amazingly got our stroller given to us at our first shower yesterday (because it's a twin stroller it was more expensive than a lot of single strollers we'd have liked). I made DH bring it into the living room so I could put it together today.
We also got an exersaucer/jumper sent to our house this week from a guest who cannot attend the shower. I put it together right away even though we won't need it for 6 months. We have great storage so leaving in the box to have it smaller wasn't necessary. My feelings are things that I KNOW we'll be using, I will put together right away. It'll be so much harder to get things together and done when you have a baby or multiples in our case, to take care of.

Eta- We are blessed with a pretty large living room, where I put together the stroller. The stroller looked SO much bigger in living room than it did inside the store! I had a mini panic moment of how huge it is and how big it'll be pushing it around stores and such.
  • We were browsing strollers last weekend and found a good deal on the one we wanted so we got it! We were ok even waiting until the baby is here as a strollers are as important! Oh and I'm 28 weeks today (yay)
  • After seeing my cousin deliver her baby a month early, I bought the car seat and stroller that same day at 31 weeks. I feel so much better knowing I have it. :)
  • With DD1, I got my stroller as a gift at my baby shower. I believe I was around 38 weeks at the time. With DD2, we bought a double stroller ourselves, but waited until she was about 3 months old to see if we really needed it or if it was a want.

With DS, and this one, I had saved both of the strollers from the girls, so we've had them since before I was pregnant. :)

  • We received our big stroller travel system as a gift around 21 weeks

  • We've bought everything baby would need starting at around 12 weeks (I sprung for a PPB diaper bag @ 9 weeks because I was so excited even though I've had losses including a late term).
We bought the stroller (baby jogger city mini GT) and infant seat (maxi cost mico AP) in June.
Everything put little girl "needs" we have already bought ourselves over the months. My registry is mainly just things we would be thrilled to have but are not essential. I saved a bunch of cute and fun stuff in all price ranges for my registry.
I kinda went overboard with the clothing and she has a wardrobe through 18 months (we only have two seasons where I live). I'm a sale shopper though and if I see something cute that's a steal from Nordstrom Rack, Tj Maxx or Target I can't help myself.
@rbs2015 I had three scares the last two weeks with actual contractions keeping me in L&D all day twice and overnight once until they could be stopped so that kicked by butt into gear in getting everything washed and put away. Definitely not too early since you are not having a shower. Mine will be tiny and I don't expect anything "big" so I never felt it was too early for anything.
  • Got one when I was 30 weeks because there was a sale... Another woman at the store was 39 weeks along, so I guess it's all up to your own preferences :)>-
  • My hubby's gran bought us one two weeks ago. But it came with the car seat and we absolutely needed that asap!

  • We aren't having a shower. I'm on the fence about buying a stroller before baby arrives since weather will be cold...we might baby wear instead until March or I may buy the stroller on Cyber Monday. I'm just not convinced I want to buy the infant attachments either. I've purchased the carseat which is an essential. So, I think it depends on your lifestyle and what you're comfortable with.
  • We are being given a used bob jogging stroller from a family friend, but don't plan on getting one to go with our car seat. It'll be winter for months so I don't plan on using a stroller much, & I'll use the baby carrier instead mostly. The baby bargains book helped me to realize this & others confirmed, depending on where you live, travel system strollers can be a waste of $. (We live in the burbs, if I lived in the city I'd definitely get one!)
  • My husband and I have been buying big ticket items once a month and then smaller stuff every other week. We've been trying to keep on our budget but it's so hard!!

I say buy it whenever you feel comfortable. My mom/aunt/gm bought mine a couple weeks ago (my big "baby shower" item) they got me an amazing jogging travel system on clearance!! So between the three of them they each paid 50 dollars which was amazing.
  • We received a stroller car seat combo yesterday at our shower and we are 30 weeks + 2 days. I agree with others.. It's your preference.
  • Like others have said, it depends on your situation.
With DS, we didn't get one until he was a few months old. He was in the NICU for a month and after that he was so small, we pretty much strapped him to us.
Since we need a stroller that can haul two now, we went ahead and ordered our stroller and all the parts this past weekend. (We got the Uppababy Vista so it's like being a la carte for a two kiddo config)

  • We were gifted with the Peg Perego book pop up stroller and it just arrived in the mail yesterday! (I'm 28w+2.) our crib/mattress came last week and the car seat the week before! I am now happy I have the essentials to get us going. :) brings some peace of mind!
  • I have my jogging stroller now and will get my other stroller at my shower in 4 weeks. Waiting for shower before spending $ on other items too.
  • We got our stroller last Week. Due to the trails we live on we wanted a bob stoller. Found it on Craig's list. Still need a "shopping" or umbrella style stroller for simple things.
  • If it were up to me I would've purchased the stroller months ago! But, my husband is logical and says we have until early December to get it. Lol my father also surprised us and is purchasing the travel system for us! My shower is on the 24th so we'll probably be getting it sometime after that.
  • We got a good deal on our travel system today (i am 31w). I want to get the bassinet next week and a few blankets and crib sheets for it and I'll be happy. I didn't register for these things cause I knew we were going to buy them ourselves and my shower isn't till November (I'll be 36 weeks and cutting it close but nothing I could do about it. For family reasons that's the earliest we could do it). I feel like if I have a car seat and somewhere to baby to sleep in even if she came early and we ended up with no baby shower I'd be okay with it. We just need the basics with a newborn.

  • We already got a jeep jogger stroller and a little pink umbrella stroller. I'm just shy of 31 weeks and don't think there's a problem with it =)
  • Depending on the weather you might want a stroller sooner. When I go for walks in the cold I prefer to baby wear, but if I am out and about when it is snowy or rainy, I prefer my Bob stroller. Especially on ice, it is more secure. Plus, I can bundle up baby and put the rain shield or additional blanket over the car seat attached. Also it's nice if baby falls asleep in the stroller to be able to unlatch your carseat and bring baby into the house. You might even be able to sneak into the shower while baby sleeps if your lucky. I never had much luck transferring baby to a crib when my first fell asleep in a carrier or sling. I guess what I'm saying is that getting a stroller before baby is born is nice because it gives you options, and you won't have to go stroller shopping with a tiny newborn.
  • I'm the sort of person who can't wait, I have to have everything perfect way before it's really needed, I think around 17 weeks I brought the nursery furniture, at about 20 weeks my dad brought us the bugaboo pram, at about 25 weeks the mother inlaw got us the 4moms rockaroo chair and at about 27 weeks we got the car seat and isofix base, bedding, bottles, nappys, wipes, clothes, bibs, blankets, dummy's, blankets, hats, snow suits, cot mobiles, teddys, cameras and cot sensors, Moses basket and everything else is also purchesed but along the way, I'm now 28 weeks and bored as I have nothing left to do or buy and he already has more clothes than me, it's now just a waiting game for me and it feels like it's taking FOREVER
  • I am 31 weeks today and we just got our travel system this past weekend. We had our baby shower a few weeks ago as received a ton of gift cards. We used those to purchase it! It helped out so much! I feel nice and prepared now.
  • We bought our stroller system around 15 weeks... bc like many others...the one I wanted was on sale for too good of a price to pass up. I don't think there is a right time to buy things. :x
  • This is just coming from my situation, I was waiting until after my shower to buy the leftovers. My shower was this past Sat Oct 3rd and I ended up in triage on Oct 5th and I am admitted due to contractions. Yesterday I was having them every 3 mins luckily they subsided but I'm still getting some. I will be 31 weeks tomorrow and all I'm thinking about is what I still need to get done. We have one more shower in about two weeks but now I don't want to rely on it just in case since this came out of no where so all I'm saying is you never know and better to be prepared.
  • I'm waiting until after the baby showers (one with my family and one with DH's, since they are not geographically close together) over the next two weekends.  I'm 33+2 right now.  We have the car seat/ stroller system on our registry, and if we don't receive it at a shower, we'll order shortly after the second.

  • We already bought one as it came with the car seat. Figured we should get that installed soon just in case - about 30 weeks now.

We purchased our stroller at 20 weeks because we found a great deal on it and we got the car seat around 24 weeks.  I like to be prepared so I don't think it's ever too early.

  • The adjustable backrest and foot brake provide greater comfort and safety, while the five-point harness keeps your little one safe.
The stroller folds easily with a single button, making it easy to store or transport.
The handle of the stroller can be adjusted in two directions.
The interior of the moses basket is made of an environmentally friendly, high-quality material.
It has a large basket, so the lower storage can be conveniently packed.
The wheels are telescopic, so it protects the little baby on all terrains. It can be adjusted to a sitting and lying position of 115 degrees and 180 degrees.
