My OBs office said they like to do the anatomy scan at 19 weeks.
They said at my 20 week appt they sent the referral over and the ultrasound office would call me to schedule.
When I didn’t hear from them over the next few days I called the office to let them know, and they said sometimes faxes got lost and they would re send it.
Yesterday I called the office again, letting them know I still hadn’t heard from anyone and would be 22 weeks this Friday. They said I could call them, but they would resend it again. They gave me a number.
I called the number which was an out of service mobile number, so I emailed the dr and explained what happened and asked if they had the real
number. She replied with a new number, so I gave them a call.
The ultrasound place said they had called me, but when they told me the number, it was NOT my telephone number, so the OB office had my number written incorrectly on the referral.
They said since the referral was not marked urgent, the soonest they can get me in is May 20th, when I already will have begun my third trimester and will be 28 weeks. This seems ridiculous to me, but maybe im wrong.
I plan on asking my OB if there is another office that can get me in sooner, or if they should be marking this as urgent, but im kinda blown away. Is this normal??
Re: Anatomy scan at 28 weeks
Everything’s likely all fine! But you deserve that check up as part of routine care like everyone else 🩷
Part of the reason for the 18-22 week time frame for the anatomy scan is that baby gets too big for a few measurements after that to be accurate. Or it's harder to get some pictures due to size. They can still get what they need, it's just harder and there's a greater error margin.
I've had a scan done later. Honestly, it sucked. Horrible pictures. They got what they needed which is what really matters. But when the anatomy scan is the only ultrasound during your pregnancy, not getting good pictures really stinks.
My scan is in 2 days and I'll be almost 24 weeks. I'm not happy about it. The girl in the office who was supposed to send my referral didn't because she was "waiting for insurance information" but never contacted me or even asked the midwife. Since I'm only using the midwife for occasional progress checks and to submit orders (because you can't make the request yourself), we aren't going through insurance with her. And my insurance sucks about covering most things as it is that I didn't want to fight with them about an intermittent midwife.
By the time the Diagnostic Center received my referral and then got around to calling me I was already 20 weeks. I booked the absolute soonest appointment available at any of their offices and that was May 3. And I'll be in a room that doesn't have a printer so I'll need to take pictures with my phone.
