Baby Names

Do we need to change the middle name?

My husband and I had settled on ‘Isamara’ as a middle name for several reasons: its use in Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries (we have a Spanish last name), Mara being African (we’re Black too!), it being somewhat related to hubby’s middle name giving baby the same initials as him.

Well, my cousin’s wife gives birth and they give their baby the middle name ‘Amara’ to play on the mother’s name. I send my hubby the photos that the family is circulating and his response is ‘we’ve got to get a new middle name.’

We can’t agree on a new one and I’m just wondering, do we REALLY need a new name? Will it matter that much?

Re: Do we need to change the middle name?

  • I don't think you need a new middle name. They are both just the middle name and it doesn't sound like you are very close to the other couple

  • It's a middle name and it had meaning to you. Stick with it.
  • Thank you. I am pretty close to the other couple as the guy is my first cousin 😂 BUT I am from a very large family. I have 16 first cousins alone and we also associate with 2nd and 3rd cousins.

They don’t live in the same state though!
  • Don’t change it. If anyone says anything tell them it was picked for a long time ago
  • Yea I wouldn't change it for a cousin. Sister or best friend maaaaybe but still probably not because it's just a middle name, and it's not even the exact same name!
