Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Uncomfortable at bedtime

My LO is 3 months old. We are trying hard to put him to learn to self soothe however he really likes to be rocked to fall asleep and the transfer doesn’t always go well as he will wake up. He doesn’t really take a paci but will start crying 5 or 10 mins after being put to bed. Lately I’ve noticed that he seems to be bringing his knees to his chest as if he is uncomfortable and gassy. We do the gas drops, he is breastfed but we do a bottle at night. When he scream cries I pick him up to soothe and even when picked up he is still trying to bring his knees upwards. Not sure what to do with the gas, but I also don’t know if he has gotten used to falling asleep on me and that it’s hard for him. Almost always he will wake up shortly after sometimes even 45 min later and be rocked back to sleep. Anyone experience this or have any tips? Is it gas or am I just doing something wrong in putting him down? Thank you!

  • Have you tried to swaddle? That made such a difference with my LO, he’s 4 months and sleeps 6 hour stretches at night.

  • I have a hard time getting my 3 month old to sleep - we’ve gotten into the habit of rocking her to sleep and setting her down versus drowsy but awake. She has really bad gas pains too and we also bottle feed at night instead of breastfeeding. During the night feed I’ll burp her halfway and keep burping her after she’s done with the bottle (also keep her upright on my chest for ~10 minutes). It gets tricky if she falls asleep while burping and don’t get any burps out and she’ll wake up an hour later uncomfortable.
