Induction for two vessel cord?

Hi everyone, I have an induction coming up and I was hoping I could get some thoughts/advice from you. I will be 40 weeks 1 day when I am induced and I don't really want to do it, but my doctor has cautioned me that babies with two vessel cords sometimes don't get what they need from the placenta past that point and I don't want to compromise his health just so I can have the birthing experience I want. Have any of you heard anything about this practice? The pregnancy has been perfect except for the cord issue and I'm not seeing anything on Google about this.

Re: Induction for two vessel cord?

  • Yes, I had a coworker with this and her situation lead to an emergency c-section because something happened (I do not know the whole story) due to a severe issue.  Please do not question the doctor on this - work w/ him or her and be sure you understand where they are coming gor and reasons why.  If you have a MyChart or emr w/ them you can always message any questions for more clear answers.

  • Yes- awesome that everything else is healthy. We had lots of testing done as a 2-vessel can signify other problems - low risk but that’s  what happened to me. Kiddo is 4 and very healthy now.
We were induced so the right team was available if more problems arose.
  • Thank you, I really appreciate you sharing your experience!
  • Personally, if I found out I had a two vessel cord, I’d go for a C-section. My cousin had a two vessel cord but wasn’t aware. She went into labor and it was too much on his little heart because of only having two vessels and he was still born. Everything else in the pregnancy was completely normal, they just didn’t get him out in time. I would be terrified to go into spontaneous labor.
