Milk screening test strips

I had 2 drinks last night my first was a glass of Chardonnay my second was a peach schnapps drink. I pumped and dumped before i went to bed. This morning i pumped thirteen ounces and tested it with the strips. I accidentally read it after 10 minutes and it came up basically black. I tested it again and read it at the 2 minute mark and it was negative for alcohol. Which one should I trust? Are these strips inaccurate after the two minute mark?

Re: Milk screening test strips

  • Yes, don't trust it after the 2 minute mark, according to my test strips box.

Note that your experience may vary based on your tolerance, but a good rule of thumb is if you feel tipsy, there's probably still alcohol present in your breast milk. Before baby I was a tank and could drink 3 or 4 beers without feeling the effects; now after I've had a beer I sometimes only have to wait an hour or so (verified by the test strip) before I can pump. Take note of your own tolerance and build up a reference time frame so you know how long you have to wait on average.
