Let's talk names! What names are you considering for your baby?

Re: The Name Thread

  • We've discussed names but haven't landed on anything solid.

DH and I have pretty different tastes. He's big on the name having some kind of significance/meaning and doesn't care so much what it sounds like, whereas I think it's okay to pick a name just because you like it.

River, Jett, and Asher are our top boy names.

Girl names have been hard for me.. you wouldn't think so, since I have 2 boys. Hallie is the top contender right now.

  • Our first boy is Benton and if he was a girl he would have been Nora! We aren’t sold on Nora anymore and for now have settled on some names

    Scottie for a girl
    Henry for a boy

but these could change! Girl middle name will be Lyn after my mom and sister but we are stuck on a boy middle name. I like middle names to mean something and Benton’s middle name is James, which is the same as his dad’s middle name

@saltedcaramel518 I like Jett and Hallie!!
  • @saltedcaramel518 @littlemarshmallow I love all those names! Especially love Scottie for a girl. I had a friend in college with that name and I always thought it was really cool.

We will wait until we find out the sex in January to start the discussion, but I have an active list on my phone. I’m REALLY picky about names and it has no rhyme or reason. It’s not like I only like certain kinds of names, I just don’t like very many lol
  • @maggiemadeit, I am in the same boat. We are finding out sex in January also, so hopefully that will help. But all names sound like something I wouldn't actually pick. Nothing even sounds remotely good to me at all. Idk how people do this.
  • We are going Sebastian for a boy, if it was a girl it would have been Penelope. We like long names that leave a lasting impression. For Penelope I would have gone with the nickname Penny but I haven’t settled on a nick name for Sebastian… my son is thinking SeaBass but my hubs hates that lol… any nick name ideas appreciated!
  • I really like Monica for girls
  • I hate choosing names. My husband and I have every different tastes and I am admittedly extremely picky. We get lots of compliments on our daughter's name so maybe it leads to good results :) I think choosing the name for a second kiddo is even harder than a first though - I feel like the names have to sound good together in addition to liking the name on its own. And I think I've just gotten pickier.

I'm currently liking Margo and Hazel, though we will see if either of those stick. I have a list on my phone, but don't feel enthusiastic about many of them so far. We will probably stay in the brainstorming phase for a while and more than likely won't choose a final final name until she is born (last time we narrowed it down to two, but did have a lean towards one).

We do tentatively have a middle name picked out - our daughter has a boy middle name (Stanley) to honor a family member and we like the idea of sticking with that trend with this one too, so are thinking Wallace for the middle name to honor a different family member.
  • We are struggling with a middle name. I think we have decided on the first name Callum (although my husband wants to spell it Calum so we haven’t agreed on the spelling yet). But we honestly have no idea how to select a middle name. We don’t have any good family names so now we are stuck on how to move forward.
  • @lizzie-weber I love the name and the idea of combining your two mothers names!
  • @knottie061b9304e9ab93d9

Sebastian is a cute name. For a nickname you can always go with “Baz”.

If you are big on the meaning behind names as well apparently it means “ Fair-haired; Royal, king; Fearless; Falcon”
  • Great names so far ladies. I won’t find out until end of January/ early February what we are having. But I have a couple of names for both that we won’t be announcing until our baby is born.

I like classic yet not super common names. We have a really common last name so I want a name outside of the top 100. Middle name will be a family name, probably Elizabeth or Louise. First name contenders right now are Rose, Georgia, and Margot. My oldest LOVES the name Rose… she calls the baby that now so it would be sweet to use it. It’s also a family name. But Georgia is currently my favorite.
  • I read part of this thread earlier in the week and have been wanting to get back to it, so I could respond to all these cute names!

@saltedcaramel518 Jett and Hallie are way cute choices! Boy names are way easier if you ask me.
@littlemarshmallow Love both Scottie and Henry. Have you seen the show Suits? What about dad's first name or grandpa's middle name for boy 2's middle name?
@maggiemadeit I too have a list in my phone. @stress_engine It's been a favorite game for years to discuss baby names with my sisters. We have full conversations about babies that aren't even on the radar yet.
@knottie061b9304e9ab93d9 Penny would have been way cute. We know an adorable little Penelope. Do you like Zeb for a nickname?
@lizzie-weber One of my close friends is Suzanne and goes by Suzie. She's got a heart of gold. The kid of person that brightens every room and makes you feel like you matter. Chloe is a great way to nod to both!
@andiiidreaaa such a timeless name! I love June for the mn especially.
@curlyandpreggo sibsets are real! That said, I love a good sibset, and I ended up totally mismatched! Margot and Hazel are both beautiful choices.
@sbaby2023 do you have any friends you would honor with the mn?
@jenEP Georgia Louise!  <3 how precious!

With baby 3, we will have Eli, Zig and Vic.

We decided on Victor for baby 3 just because we like it. My thoughts were that it's a strong male name, not overly popular but still "normal". Middle name is Richard after my husband's brother. I cracked up when my husband joked "VicRick". Then I cracked up again when my mom said the same thing unprompted.

I didn't know anybody with the my first-born's name when I picked it, and now it's all over the place. My second was a family name that's well out of commission. I'd say he's probably the only one in the last 50 years with the name, except I was creepin on fb and I think a third cousin somewhere on my husband's side with the same last name used the first name too - Crazy! This time it's right in between. It feels right.

Baby 1 was going to be Elijah, McKenna Lucille or Audrey Camille (couldn't decide the girl name and didn't have to. We call him Eli and almost decided to just write Eli on the official papers)
idk if this needs a *TW* but if it does, here it is: *TW* I had a m/c after baby 1, and he would have been Owen. Eli and Owen was my original sibset. I still love his name.
Baby 2 was going to be Zig or Reagan Pearl
Baby 3 was going to be Victor, Annelise or Ana Leigh (again, couldn't decide the girl name and now don't have to. I wonder if he'll go by Vic.)
I'm 99% sure I'm done after 3, but if we could have another boy I'm loving Oscar!
  • @maple1422 love the name Victor. It was on our boy name list! Such a solid name.
  • We’re having a GIRL and I’m over the moon - I was dying for my daughter to have a sister since this is our last!

We’re naming her Olympia Senna, and plan to call her Ollie.

Our first is Georgina Jagger - but she goes by Gigi. Our second is Frankie Dino. We like cool, unique names, but easy to pronounce! If it was a boy, we were going to call him Sonny, but I got my gal 🩷
  • A few friends with sons named Sebastian go by Seb or Sebbie!
  • We’re thinking about June as a middle name!
  • We picked Everett Joel for our baby boy. Joel is a family name on my husbands side. 5 generations share that middle name. This time around we didn’t dwell too much on a name, since we picked this boy name a year and a half ago. Our first baby is a girl.
  • My oldest picked out names and we are leaning towards it. violet for a girl and Lucas for a boy. I really think it’s a girl and will find out soon. I am just having a hard time picking middle name. But I also can’t decide if I want to go with Violet.

It’s so hard to pick names!
  • Aw Everett was our pick if it was a boy too, that sounds so nice together!
  • knottie061b9304e9ab93d9 I know a Sebastian whose nickname is Bash.
  • I’m so glad we’re not the only couple that doesn’t agree with names. We struggled with our first and ended up going with Oliver Cody (husband picked Cody) my dad liked Oliver so that’s the only one my husband agreed to if he could pick the middle name. Now he’s throwing out boy names and I’m like no 😅 this time around we have to name 2! We know one is a boy for sure but still have to wait until Tuesday to hopefully find out the other.
Does any one have matching names for twins? I’m terrible with names. I don’t want anything too crazy to where my Hispanic parents can’t pronounce it right 😂 He wants Walker…

Hi all! Since I’m over 35, our insurance covered the blood test that tells the gender, so we got to do a fun gender reveal for our other kids and the family on Christmas Day! We also went out is the norm and announced the name right then and there. It was so fun! This is actually baby #5 for us 🥰. Order is girl, boy, girl, girl… and we are having, yup, another girl! Thankfully our one and only son is a trooper and is handling it all really well :). Anyway, baby girl’s name is Willow!
  • Omg we did the same thing! On Christmas morning I got my husband a bracelet with all his kids names on it and added our baby girls name to it and so it was a gender reveal/name reveal as well! And for the grandparents I got them embroidered sweaters with the grandkids names on the sleeves and added our new additions name as well, it was such a sweet way to announce on Christmas morning. Also, we are having a girl, she’s our fourth, and only one son, our oldest. He was a trooper as well! Something about those boys with lots of sisters that are always great men, my husband is one of those 🤍 I think my son likes the feeling of being special for being the only boy. Anyway, congrats to you! Thought it was cool our stories were so similar.
  • Hubby and I talked and decided we aren’t so sure about our girl name anymore. We still love Henry for a boy but aren’t sold on Scottie for a girl. I think we came up with a new idea that might stick for awhile - Maggie!
  • @littlemarshmallow I am biased of course, but I love being a Maggie! I’ve only ever met one other in my travels too.
