GTKY: Did you watch the Super Bowl? Are you in it for the commercials and half time show? Nope, nu-uh, and nadda.
@cscrzldbg we follow a pretty strict budget too! It has helped of save so much! When we first drafted it years ago it made us sick how much we spent just here and there 😅
I’m sure y’all will stick to it accordingly. We are in the beginning stages of building and so thankful we took the time years ago before kids to implement a budget to help us save and pay off debt! Which, we’re about to have about 30 years of house debt but it’ll be worth it to raise our kids in our forever home.
cscrzldbg we are contracting the dirt work, concrete, and the shell. We are going with stick frame home and metal siding. We are pretty deep in the woods and the land is already cleared. My husband will be finishing out the house as much as he can and we will sub out what we need too! I’m sure it’ll take much longer going this route but we’re hoping to keep the mortgage as low as possible so we aren’t “house poor.” We have cows so we will also have to erect a fence pretty quick too when things get rolling! We used a local draftsman and made 100 changes it felt like before we finally got our “dream home” lol. It’s 1900 sq ft, 3 bed 2 bath but with a “bonus room” upstairs we will use as attic space but can convert to a bedroom and 1/2 bath if we ever need the extra space!
@sph97 That sounds great. We are trying to pay for everything with "cash on hand" so that we won't have to take out a mortgage. It might be slow but it will be nice to have no mortgage or a very minimal one when the house is finished.
We have 80 acres in open range land. So, we're actually fencing OUT the horses and cows. Lol. This year, I was hoping to get a couple meat cows and a Jersey for milking, but it looks like we got a baby coming instead. 😄 We have other animals so I'm not super bummed about not getting the cows this year. If the right deal for cows comes along, though, who knows.
Speaking of babies and animals, we had our second kidding of the year. Here are our newest (goat) babies; born today, less than 2 hours old.
cscrzldbg we are fencing out the cows! I’m terrified we will pour concrete and have tracks all through our foundation before it’s set 😅 we have another pasture we can rotate them out in temporarily but they’ll definitely need to graze before the build is finished. We have a portion of ~200 acres of family land! It’s really been a blessing. So awesome to see other homesteading families! We raise beef, help his grandfather raise hogs, and we keep a pretty large garden that several people work and pick. I’m really new at this, but every year we are steadily growing our pantry and I’m learning to become more and more shelf stable putting up our harvest!
I will share a pic of our newest calf born this week!
@cscrzldbg@sph97 y’all are out here living my dream life! My husband and I would love to build a house on a nice plot of land and have a few animals as well! Unfortunately money is a real thing lol.

Oooo?! Are you building your own home? Are you owner-builders or did you hire out?
We will be building our own house as owner-builders. Having a hard time getting together with an architect to design plans atm though.
So, this year, we're focusing on prepping the building site and continuing to improve the rest of the land for the animals.
