Waking up with a sore belly and back

I’m 22 weeks pregnant and for the past 3-4 weeks, I have been waking up every morning in so much pain. My lower belly and lower back are so sore that it’s hard to get up out of bed and normally lasts all morning and sometimes all day. It feels worse than the average muscle soreness and almost like I’m bruised from the inside. I assume it’s from tossing and turning during the night because everytime it normally wakes me up with pain. But has anyone else had this problem or figured out how to make it better?

Re: Waking up with a sore belly and back

  • Depends on where the pain is specifically, but…I’m guessing it’s related to core strength. The increased arch in the back and the stretching of core musculature makes the back feel terrible. Try something like posterior pelvic tilts, transverse abdominus exercises, bridges. You might find some relief with quadruped rockbacks or child’s pose. All of those exercises can be found on YouTube.

  • I had similar problems in my first pregnancy and my pregnancy pillow helped. I needed a pillow under my belly, in between my legs, between my ankles, and behind my back. I used a Snoogle in my first pregnancy, twisted the top to the side to use a regular pillow for my head and then an extra pillow for my back or belly, depending which way I turned. I was finding Snoogle hot, so I got a Momcozy U shaped pillow with a cool cover for my second pregnancy, which is good for my hips and back, but I’m not sure if it will support my belly once that becomes an issue, since there seems to be a cut out for the belly. Anyway, hope you’re feeling better!
