My baby is 4 months, and I have been in the backseat with him since day 1 but I'm starting to get carsick back there. Just curious how others do it?

Re: How long do/did you ride with baby in car backseat?

  • LO is 4 months and I rode with him in backseat for the first few weeks. I stopped that when he was about a month old except for long car rides. We travel each month for about a 4 hour trip and I spend at least half the trip in back with him sometimes the whole trip. He gets bored after while so I entertain him.

  • I've only ever done it a few times after the first week or two. Just when she's super fussy or cranky before we're even on the road. Usually she'll fall asleep after a few and I move up front.
  • I always sit in the back! Baby is 18 mos. New one is 3. But even when little one is asleep big one needs entertaining.
  • I just stopped this week. My LO is 5.5m and I needed to feel Ike an adult. I'm with her 24/7. Also, she would mostly stare at the sky anyway. If we plan to drive an hour or more I'll sit in the back.
  • I never did. Not once. I even drove LO home from the hospital because my H had to work.

I am honestly shocked people actually sit in the backseat. Just get a mirror.

I'm surprised too...I did on the ride home and maybe the first few times the week after, when H was around and we had to go somewhere. I also did it occasionally when LO was really upset, but normally sit in the front. What do you all do when you have to go somewhere by yourself with LO?? We got a mirror as well.

    Ditto.
  • Am i a wierdo? I only did for the ride home from the hospital. That being said, sometimes i have other kids in the car, but not always. He does just fine. Longer rides he fusses, but if it gets too crazy we pull over and give him a break.
  • I did on the way home from the hospital and I think to and from her 4 day dr appt and then didn't again aside from a couple of long rides and only if she was absolutely screaming on those rides. She hates the car. A lot.
  • I did on the way home from the hospital and haven't since. I drive him alone all the time and he's fine. I don't have the mirror either because I'm not going to cause a crash by staring at him. If he cries he cries there's nothing I can do about it while in traffic.
  • I didn't even do it on the way home from the hospital. She was asleep so I just got up front like normal. I have done it a few times like when we took a 17 hour car trip. I would rotate in the front and back when she it fussy. I mean what do you do when you go out alone with your baby? Or do you not go alone?
  • Yeaaahhh. I don't lol. On the way back from the hospital I was up front. The only time I have ever been back there was from the ride to Virginia from Kentucky when he got fussy. Then I go right back up front. I don't find it necessary at all.

Mine HATED the car seat at first, I mean screaming bloody murder the second we put her in it, so I sat in back with her for maybe the first two months. I probably could have stopped sooner but it became a bit of a habit to jump in back. Then I went back to work and she came with me so she had no choice but to be back there by herself. Luckily by then she was getting much better about the car seat. We took a 4 hour road trip when she was 4 months and I sat up front and she was fine.

  • We still do this. Mainly b/c he loathes his car seat & it's just less stressful if he can be entertained back there instead of crying. But sometimes it doesn't even help. I'm over sitting back there so Hubby does now. He's a bit more paranoid than me since I'm used to driving around with only baby & hearing the crying.
  • Hope this was sarcasm
  • We bought one of the mirrors to attach to the head rest and it makes me feel better being able to see our LO. I rode with him in the back up until about 8weeks and he's totally content with the mirror, it's big enough that he can see me too
