How are you feeling?: good as long as I drink enough and don’t overdo it
Rants/Raves: getting our sleeping schedule back on track so it’s been weird to actually be up early again. We’ll see how it works out.
Rant - the backyard gets bad drainage so it’s a muddy mess for most of the year. Which is frustrating because I’d like to take my son and dogs outside to run around but they get so messy. I might just get him a pair of rain boots so I can at least take him outback.
Questions: nope
GTKY: What’s your five year plan?
Hopefully buy a house, maybe have another baby, go back to work/school, have better financials.
Upcoming appointment: Wednesday for glucose and growth scan.
Feeling: good. Insomnia is back a bit and reflux is no fun, but besides those things I’m enjoying the energy levels of second tri still.
Rant: I’ve been waiting to chat with an agent on my insurance company website for thirty five minutes. I just have a question. This is only one of a thousand problems with healthcare.
Rave: ordered my breast pump. Got out baby stuff for SIL as well as myself. Had a productive convo with DH about names.
GTKY: I hope I’m almost done with grad school and still homeschooling my kiddos. Whether I put them in school and start working full time immediately or if I try part time and keep homeschooling will depend entirely on our financial situation at the time. I don’t mind putting DD in school because homeschooling through elementary was the goal anyway, but that does mean this little man will only have gotten preschool at home. But in five years I’ll know better about how I want my career to go anyway.
How are you feeling?: Physically pretty good, emotionally a little roller-coaster-y
Rants/Raves: I did my 3 hour glucose test on Friday and my doc called this morning to say I passed, which is a MASSIVE relief. I logged into my patient portal thing this weekend and saw the numbers and got myself worried that I was going to fail (I know GD isn't the end of the world, but I've had my heart set on birthday cake in two weeks, and the thought of having to skip that was harder than I care to admit).
On the other hand, I just realized the prenatal class is signed up for with the hospital is on Easter weekend, which throws a bit of a wrench in the works. We were planning on visiting my parents that weekend (about 4 hours away), and maybe having a small baby shower that weekend. The hospital only offers the classes once a month, though, but they did something wonky with the schedule so that February is probably already full (it's just next week), and I think April will be cutting it uncomfortably close to my due date. As a first time mom, and having never been to this hospital before, I feel like I need the information this class will have, especially the information specific to this hospital.
Questions: Has anyone had any luck with relief for pregnancy related carpal tunnel? these tingly fingers drive me crazy.
GTKY: I hardly have a five hour plan, let alone 5 years. There's a loan I'd like to have paid off by then, and some decently large home improvement projects to have finished in that time. If I really go for it, it'd be cool to have something published in 5 years, but that seems like quite a long shot, especially since I'll also have a tiny human to care for.
Baby is the size of a (an): shoebox! And equally as poke-y ha
Team blue/pink/green: blue
Upcoming Appointments: in about 2 weeks, another routine visit
How are you feeling?: ok! Currently on vacation in Hawaii so that definitely helps . Some low rib pain and just started getting acid reflux in the morning so that’s real cute. But otherwise just trying to stay active and get good sleep
Rants/Raves: the afore-mentioned acid reflux is a fun new development….also I’m on vacation and clearly pregnant and have not been receiving as much special treatment and upgrades as I’d like Hahha. Yesterday at the beach I did manage to beg the cleaning crew to let me use the bathroom just as they were locking up because “I’m pregnant and really have to pee.” So I guess there’s that…
Questions: anyone else genuinely concerned there is no more room to grow with three months left? I’m petite and short waisted and my belly already feels quite large.
GTKY: What’s your five year plan? Well I’m 37 and this is my first and I am pretty sure I’d like to have 2… so I’m accepting that for the next few years or so, I will be in a period focused on conception, pregnancy, birth, newborn care. It’s exciting but also sometimes hard to fathom- I’ve always been very ambitious at work and active (lots of travel, exercise, camping etc), and some of that may have to shift. Not gonna lie, sometimes it makes me a bit sad or scared, how much my life and identity will shift. But! I’m trying to focus on staying healthy and strong and doing as much as I can at work and in life while pregnant and hopefully when baby comes (minus the work part!)
also we live in a 500 sq ft one bedroom condo so dear god I hope we can manage to buy a bigger home. But we live in toronto so let’s see how that goes… (for Americans, it’s like the nyc of Canada, real estate-wise)
@louloumama I’m pretty average length in the torso but yeah, it absolutely feels like there’s no where else for them to go and it just gets worse. 😅 You’re welcome. Reflux is the worst. Pepcid has been helping. I hope you have a great time on vacay and I hope more people give you special treatment. I’m always mad that they took away the expecting mothers parking spots at the grocery because it’s like, this is the least you can do. But I strongly suspect they did that because people would just park there anyway and there was no point.
And yes to the lifestyle shift. I can admire that you went the career route first though. Here I am planning to go back to school at 37 and start a career at 40. But it’s definitely a big shift, and the only advice I can give is to make sure your partner is fully aware and supportive of how much it will affect YOU unfairly in society (compared to men), and steps up to help you make sure you can hang on to your identity.
@kamikazezoomy I hope you can get the class schedule figured out! I would be anxious as a FTM cutting it that close in April but also wouldn’t want to give up my family weekend plus baby shower. So weird they scheduled it on a holiday weekend!
@louloumama jealous of your vacation!! & yes I feel stretched out to the max but somehow it will just keep growing, the bump will go out and get wider 😬
Upcoming Appointments: 2/19 for glucose testing and another scan
How are you feeling?: So freaking tired. Nursing school is kicking my butt. But I'm hanging in there, lol. Also, I am definitely starting to get uncomfortable. With my son I actually never experienced braxton hicks (or couldn't tell if I was) but last night I was having them off and on during class and til I went to sleep. Not painful but definitely uncomfortable!
Rants/Raves: I got a 90 on my first nursing exam. Super happy about that! But damn I am stressed. OH and can't remember if I updated here but my fluid was up to a 10 last week so YAY! They are gonna do another scan at my next appt to be safe but said I should be good, just gotta keep drinking water.
Questions: Nope
GTKY: What’s your five year plan? In 5 years I would have ideally gotten my BSN, maybe be starting my MSN, having a 3rd kid, and working as a nurse!
Baby is the size of a (an): MacBook air keyboard ⌨️
Team blue/pink/green: pink 🩷
Upcoming Appointments: 3/6 for the glucose screening 🙈 and misc bloodwork
How are you feeling?: Baby's movements are getting distinct enough that I can guess what limbs are moving. I'm starting to feel like a punching bag with all of her activity. My hips and legs still ache at night, but I think the magnesium supplements are helping. So physically feeling great!
Rants: Work has been a lot lately - I'm juggling a few projects and overlapping deadlines, getting pulled into more meetings by the week, and the recent layoffs and upcoming performance reviews have me worried and mentally exhausted. 😮💨 I've not been able to keep up with my workouts the past week.
Raves: I found a new podcast to listen to and finally worked on my first personal art piece of 2024. Only for a couple hours but it's a start.
Questions: n/a
GTKY: What’s your five year plan?
Depending on how this goes, H and I may try for another (for sure we don't want more than 2).
Personally I want to focus on my art, whether that's publishing a graphic novel/illustrating a book, or making the painting series I've had in my head for a while.
My mom plans on retiring in 5 years, so hopefully she's sorted her finances/marriage out by then and isn't living with me lol.
