RSV vaccine

Has anybody considered getting the new RSV vaccine? It sounds like it's safe to give during the 3rd trimester in order for your newborn to get the antibodies.

Doctor seemed on board, pharmacist said it was up to me but was on the fence. Already got the TDAP vaccine for whooping cough, so maybe it's not necessary?

Re: RSV vaccine

  • I am getting mine today at 33 weeks. With RSV still very prevalent I am hoping to get baby some extra antibodies for right after birth and this fall when RSV will pick up again. ACOG suggests it between 32-36 weeks due to it taking 2 weeks for baby to get the antibodies.

  • I think 4-5 of us (including myself) have received it at this point but I can’t remember what thread we talked about it in. Most of us had to bring it up to our health providers though, it wasn’t suggested to us.

Just so you know the TDaP for whooping cough is not equivalent though. Whooping cough is caused by a bacteria and RSV is a virus so one vaccine won’t protect against the other. I’m actually allergic to the pertussis vaccine so I can’t get it which bums me out.

  • Thanks guys! 😊 Good to know others have gotten it too. I'll just go to a different pharmacy with a more knowledgeable staff.
  • I just got my RSV vaxx yesterday! Other than really crummy service at Walgreens, it went great. My arm is a little bit sore, but nothing compared to TDAP!

  • @hedgepig Glad you could get it! 😊 haha yeah, the TDAP felt like he hit my bone for me.

I went to a knowledgeable pharmacist and apparently my area doesn't have access to the one that's safe for pregnant people. Just a waiting game, I guess!
  • I had mine today!
  • I got mine. I felt sick for a couple days, but I feel good about protecting baby.

I got mine a few weeks ago and since it is a virus, I actually felt very crappy for a whole week. Vomiting, nausea, exhaustion, body aches, malaise but after 5 days I felt better. I’m totally happy I got it done because RSV is coming back at a high in our area.

I asked my doctor and they didn’t hesitate with support :) and the pharmacist was very happy I was getting it due to the numbers going up.

The TDAP and Flu def had my arms in complete soreness but overall it was okay.

    Just my experience :)
